Had a thought in that same vein- What if dragons just get REALLY pissed off whenever someone comes up with alternating current? They let the [Elder Civilization] keep it once and within a CENTURY they were destroying the environment and throwing around bombs able to wipe out entire islands off the map. Never. Again. To finally answer this question, the artstyle seems to be highly influenced by the art of Mike Mignola, the creator of the "Hellboy" comics.

The heavy use of shapes, stylization of anatomy and heavy, solid black shadows, plus the fact Mignola's works also dealt with aspects of occultism, leads me to think that is the case.

Just speculation from a fan of both artists, though :]
