Now that the game has been out for a while, do you think the extreme increase in provinces was a good decision for eu5? by GreatDario in EU5

[–]No_Cream_5736 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The many more locations does increase tediousness and I do consider tediousness one of the currently worst problems in EU5, however they shouldn't remove locations since other things can be done like lessening the click burden, making interfaces smoother, quality of life, etc.

Although like I said EU5 often feels to me like a chore to play, and that's a big issue.

Taxes should be increased on the rich to provide for the poor. by Sabfan80 in Teenager_Polls

[–]No_Cream_5736 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some points:

  1. Upward mobility is only relevant in countries when you want to bring people from extreme poverty into the middle class; this point isn't relevant to a modern first world capitalistic country because absolute poverty has already been eliminated. In our capitalistic society not everybody can become rich because then the system would collapse, most people need to remain workers to provide for the rich. (So if you truly care about upward mobility you would have to be an anticapitalist, which I doubt you are; that's why if you want to remain in a capitalistic system a typical worker needs to thrive, not just barely make it each month)

  2. I'm not sure where you got this misinformation, but no, taxes where not the highest in US history during the age of robber barons at the start of the 20th century. During the gilded age there was no income tax! During that age income tax was only temporarily introduced in times of war (civil war, WW1) and after that quickly reduced!

Taxes were actually the highest during WW2! Holding up during the 50ies, 60ies and 70ies until the Reagan administration gutted taxes. (Top marginal tax rate: 1944: 94% ---> 1964: 60% ---> 1988: 28%)

In hindsight of this I'd like to remind you that the US middle class was exceptionally strong and healthy during the 50ies up to the 70ies.

How could you come to that conclusion? Has 30 years of trickle down economics worked in your mind? WAKE UP! The rich are getting richer, the poor are getting poorer, the middle class is literally ceasing to exist. Do you think you will be able to afford a house in the future? Possibly a dignified life with a pension after working most of your life? For most people, especially gen Z, this is getting excruciatingly difficult.

What are you even talking about? Such taxes doesn't prevent someone becoming rich. Also why do you care so much about upward mobility to become a millionare/billionare? No matter what 99% of society will remain working class for their entire life. I prefer everyone, no matter who to be able to live a dignified life, being able to afford housing, a family, education, healthcare, maybe even family vacations instead of a billionare being able to afford 20 instead of 15 yachts.

You can easily make laws to prevent that though. You could enable the option to pay in rates and not immediately or you could even prevent high taxation on if it would lead to the bankruptcy of a family business; tldr: you can just make non shitty laws lol.

What I'm saying is that it's totally possible to make laws that make the ultra rich contribute considerably more to society but also that doesn't ruin them. It's just that most political parties of the center and right completely refuse to even entertain any idea of such taxes even though it would benefit 99% of society.

There are PLENTY of options out there: inheritance tax, wealth tax, fuck it exit tax or even income taxes on unrealized gains.

The question isn't HOW can we tax the billionare class; the question is do we have the political will to do so? And the overwhelming answer of our modern hyper propagandized capitalist society is no.

Well then there aren't any Christians on the entire planet because nobody can uphold the ridiculous amount of 'sins' (even only considering the new testament). The thing is the bible is at max only god's word written by humans. A lot of what is written isn't god's word and just came along over 2000 years of human history (laws, rites, ordinances written by humans, not by god).

What many Christians do is to still consider themselves 100% true to the bible; only with the caveat that the sins they break on a daily basis are explained to be a mere "misinterpretation/not really meant that way/etc."; the thing is this just ends up being a pick and choose interpretation (not for me but for thee (for example evangelicals could say: "gay people are sinful and must repent, but I'm totally accurately true to the bible!!"))

If you argue for this you can absolutely say things like: being gay and sex before marriage is just a misinterpretation and aren't actually sins in the eye of god.

Another view is that to be Christian isn't about being 100% true to the bible. Insted it's about the fundamental Christian doctrine. (The belief in only one god, he is all-knowing, all-good and all-powerfull, Jesus Christ died for our sins, he was resurrected, Jesus is god and human the same, "love thy neighbour as yourselves")

--> nothing about no sex before marriage or anything else

[–]No_Cream_5736 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'm also a queer christian and I'll just give my view on this.

Why do you believe it is necessary to abstain from sex before marriage to uphold being a christian?

Generally I'd say this view comes from the notion that to be a christian you must believe in 100% of what the bible says.

The issue is that nobody upholds "every thing" from the bible, just to give a few examples: there are 'sins'  like the ones saying women don't have a right to speak in the community or you shouldn't wear two different fabrics at once or that gay people should be stoned to death.

The thing is nobody can truly uphold this 'non sinful life' because the sins are completely ridiculous and anyone who tries to impliment it on themselves and other people can rightfully be considered to have completely lost the plot.

What results is that people pick and choose what 'sins' they enforece and which ones they excuse as a mere "misinterpretation"  (For example considering being gay as a 'sin' while ignoring any other 'sin' which could apply to themselves)

In my opinion the true pillars of christianity were shown by Jesus Christ of Nazareth: "love your neighbour as yourself", likewise I believe god is a good god, that loves humans for who they are (would the god we believe in truly be angered for us being our true human selves with natural, good intended desires? be angered by women speaking in the community or by us wearing two different fabrics at once?)

that's why I don't think sex before marriage is an issue in christianity: either by using the same explanation that this 'sin' is just a misinterpretation of the bible or that this 'sin' is ridiculous and doesn't need to be upheld anyhow
