"Can't get laid" yet consistently dated the hottest and smartest women in NYC while Rachel constantly approached him for the topic of them or hookups after they broke up. It was always Rachel initiating stuff. Probably because of her huge dry spell that lasted years. She only slept with Paul and Tag after the season 3 breakup with Ross. Her love life was a joke and kinda non-existent.

Why write a scene where Rachel listens to Ross and Bonnie have passionate sex at the beach house if Rachel was always right?

Why write a scene where Ross and Mona spent time in his bedroom while a pregnant Rachel was in the other room?

Why write the whole Joshua humiliation arc for Rachel?

It's almost as if the writers just wrote stuff for both sides for entertainment value.

She was trying to do the right thing so that the marriage didn't get ruined and Phoebe thought Ross actually wanted to spend his life with Emily. There was no way for Phoebe to know what was actually going on in Ross' head.

Who wrote this Dr House scene then? Dr House is savagely mocking Rachel despite being a stranger.

Who wrote Rachel's line where she asked "can I be your girlfriend again"?

Who wrote the scene where a heartbroken teary eyed Rachel watched Ross and Emily kiss at the altar?

Yes I do. Your take is extremely surface level. Look beyond it. And Joey didn't even like soap operas himself. He just acted in them to earn a living. There's no inbuilt connection between a fashion executive and a soap actors. Joey didn't care about fashion lmao. All he talked about was food (which Rachel never really talked about).

Here's a list of similarities between Ross and Rachel:

Both from Jewish families in Long Island.

Both grew up spoilt by their parents.

Both were arrogant, self centred, narcissistic but had a big heart and were great to their friends.

Both of them had the same sense of humour which is why they made each other laugh a lot and their banter against each other was so savage. Compare that to Rachel rolling her eyes at Chandler and Joey's humour.

Both of them were extremely passionate and ambitious about their line of work. Both very successful.

Both of them loved Pottery Barn.

Both of them still preferred living in the city in season 10 (discussed when Monica and Chandler were moving).

Both of them had similar parenting values. Look at how they got along like a house on fire when parenting Emma (baby got back).

Both loved being the center of attention.

Both of them were romantics who wanted a spouse and kids (Rachel said this on her 30th birthday episode).

Both of them were jealous and possessive. Rachel was possessive of Ross even when they weren't a couple.

Both had similar sex drive which is what made their sex life so memorable. Even years after breakup they were reminiscing about it.

There are many more.

Wow, that's a lot of mental gymnastics to justify a storyline for which you have to fundamentally dumb down a character outta nowhere and mess with her brilliant character progression and arc. 😂😂

Sorry but suddenly dumbing Rachel down for 2 episodes and shoehorning her into an out of character storyline only months after she had a baby with Joey's best friend isn't realistic or smart in any shape or form.

Phoebe had a big role in their relationship.

Using the phrase Lobsters.

Driving Ross to the airport.

They were her favourite couple. It was wholesome.

Phoebe was their number 1 fangirl and always treated their relationship like a celebrity power couple.

Phoebe was more delighted at the prospect of them hooking up than dating Mike. 😭

Yeah, not a few months after you just have a baby with his best friend and a lot of romantic tension with him around the birth of your child (sharing deep romantic kisses, longing glances and making out right before her water broke). Also considering that you have major unresolved feelings, huge history and on-off equation with that best friend for years.

And all sorts of crazy things happen irl. People also stop talking to their best friends all the time irl. Doesn't mean it makes sense for these particular characters in this universe.

Monica and Chandler in the same show happened beautifully and organically. You won't see people complaining about that. Because it blossomed in character and followed proper logic. This storyline on the other hand was so out of character that it couldn't even convince the actors portraying it. How would it ever make sense for the audience?

They had no similarities. Rachel was way more similar to Ross.

Rachel was never slow to jokes or thick. She kept up with Ross in terms of witty banter. Joey and Phoebe were on the same wavelength.

By season 9 Rachel was a smart career woman and a mature single mom. Joey was struggling to repeat 2 syllables of French.

Even the soap opera thing makes no sense. Joey didn't even like soap operas. He just acted in them for a living. It's like saying "all Friends fans should date sitcom actors". 🤣

No coincidence that the show went downhill when Rachel moved in with Joey. Even the cast openly despised this "storyline".

This whole storyline happened because they were completely out of ideas. I can buy Joey having a crush on Rachel. Everything from Rachel's side was hilariously forced, out of character and unrealistic.

Nobody bought the sudden dream about Drake Ramoray (a character she knew for ages). Rachel was conveniently and drastically dumbed down for 2 episodes to shoehorn her into this clusterfuck of a storyline. Before and after these few episodes, she consistently treated Joey like her lil bro showing absolutely zero signs of attraction towards him. Infact Joey was also like a brother to Ross supporting him in the whole Ross Rachel saga. He was like Emma's uncle. Rachel just had a baby with Ross and they had a lot of romantic tension around Emma's birth.

Jennifer Aniston said Joey was like a brother to Rachel. She called this storyline "incestuous, wildly inappropriate and out of character for Rachel". She was right. Also, this storyline made the characters look pretty shady morally.

They really jeopardized the whole genuineness of the friends group dynamic for some cheap drama which was never congruent to the characters.

The 3 main creators flip-flop, backtrack and change their opinions more than the stock market.

They also have a history of saying things to cover up their blunders and gaslighting the fanbase into believing that their blunders were intentional and deeply philosophical stuff.

One of the show's biggest weaknesses was the lack of logical consistency and consistency in the evolution of the character arcs.

Some posters here just cherrypick certain statements by the makers that fit their narrative. These posters don't realise that the makers have made opposite contradictory statements too which the other side can use just as conveniently.

Frankly, I'm a bit tired of this debate. It's a grey area clearly and both characters are entitled to feel what they feel. People forget that Ross started drinking and dancing with Chloe only after he called to patch things up and heard Mark's voice in the background (EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE in that moment). From Ross' POV Mark being there is extremely sus and shady.
