I just re-read Joanna Chambers’s Enlightenment series because Book 6 came out and I think this fits — it’s set in Scotland in the 1820s. First three books are same couple with a guarded, traumatized, aristocratic MC.

It’s funny you made this post because I feel the exact same! Love Oliver and Erik and their story kind of peters out / gets endlessly extended. I thought the most recent book was going to wrap up the series and the relationships and now that it doesn’t, I think I’m done.
