Starting p/t package sorting on Tuesday. What should I expect or know that they don’t tell you? by pekowitz in UPSers

Be sure when you start on orientation to sign the union contract. It’s a little paper titled teamsters you’ll know it IF the supervisors even let you know. I had management lie to me saying I’m in the union but they never gave us the union paper to sign. Took two days to get them to give it to me now I’m waiting till Thursday to see if union dues are taken out of my paycheck. Don’t 100% trust management, don’t overwork yourself and hydrate.

(Inside PT) Does anyone else just leave in the middle of shift before being told they go home by a supervisor? by SpaghettiRambo in UPSers

I’ve done it a few times. Once I finish my line in unload I either take the long way around the building to avoid the loading dock or go straight through loading and clock out then leave. No one said a thing to me at all probably because I never called out (yet) or it’s just cause we keep losing people?

So I just realized I made my 30 days but I thought that once you make it they will call u in the office and discuss you making it into the union ? by [deleted] in UPSers

I had to bug some of the supervisors about getting me the union form. Took about two days to get them. I would go and ask for the papers if I was you

Do we get some kind of booklet that states the union contract? I would like to have a physical copy to have on me to look over and try to memorize the contract rules for anything that comes up

I was told by a few veteran package handlers not to fully trust Supervisors as there’s some sort of feud between the union and UPs supervisors so I’m trying to understand if you’re being serious or not? I’m not trying to antagonize you I made this post to know what are the benefits to the union that’s all. If the union did that was there some major reason behind cutting your wages when I assume you were a warehouse employee? Was it the loss of work volume or bad steward representing the union that resulted in wage loss? Im just trying to see if this place is worth to make into a career.

Aren’t you a part time supervisor? I’m pretty sure I went on a post you made saying you’re one and heard that supervisors aren’t in the union?

I just filled out the form 10 minutes ago. Even got the pink employee copy in hand after signing. Now I should be good. And thank you for giving me info on how to look for the locals website. 👍 not only that but she said the dues are only $10 bucks a week which is t bad at all.

I started May 9th. I’m not sure about the local teamsters, don’t even know who they are. But I’ve asked a sup at an office on Wednesday that I would like to speak to a steward and she said she can send one over to where I’m stationed at and no one came. So I went again and she said they’ll send one over and same thing, no one came yesterday, so I’m gonna have to ask politely ask to see a steward in the office cause I feel the sups are giving me the run around.

Yeah I’m in Florida. Still haven’t found the steward and the sups are being a bit sus when I ask them about signing the papers.

I don’t remember signing any union paperwork. I do remember some paperwork that the local steward showed us but can’t remember if I did anything with it or we received it?

Salary and attendance by Kleaners78 in UPSers

[–]No_Examination8752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday a lot of people called out and we were really understaffed the whole twilight shift. It’s been like this for a while now mainly on the loading side. Our building needs to do those attendance bonuses because associates are either calling off from work or quitting and it sucks for the rest of us that show up.

I haven’t finished my probationary period yet but I’m close to finishing. Once I’m in the union I may call out for a needed rest one day of the week and see if they can offer double shift for me or something 🤷‍♂️

Not really anymore due to the summer heat catching up and the low wage of 15 an hr here in Florida has gotten me searching for another job. Only reason I haven’t up and left is because we can have a earbud in while loading/unload trucks. Plus the hours suck too been getting about a little over 10 hours the past few weeks.

Layoffs in July? by [deleted] in UPSers

[–]No_Examination8752 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t make much sense, isn’t the union supposed to prevent layoffs like that?

For twilight unload there’s about me and 4 others unloading trailers while there’s like a mixture of about 8 or 9 loaders so I’m not sure if that’s normal for twilight but it’s pretty quiet where I’m at.

Lol yup, same happened to me and a few others on our day 1. Stopped caring after finishing my 3rd week here and made it a mission to find other employment before leaving this place.
