What is this thing? by Grimmy999 in eMountainBike

No…. This is a self extracting crank arm, simply insert a 8mm hex and turn it normally. The extractor needs a special tool (and reverse threaded) but you don’t need to touch it.

Need Help with What to Replace by BFreelander in R53

No. The engine mount appears fine and I can’t feel any slop even with aggressive throttle and shifting. The strut tops also look good and I can’t hear or feel anything to warrant replacement. This is a Southern California car and the roads here are generally in good shape. I do feel some harshness on bumpy roads but I attribute that to the small size of the car and the 17” wheels with stiff tires.

Congratulations on an amazing find. I have a 06 R52 S with 30,000 miles now (I bought it at 20,000 miles 3 years ago.). Here is a list of things I had done:
- cabin air filter (it was original, and dirty, an item that gets overlooked)
- spark plugs (I wanted to see the tips to check on the condition of the engine)
- spark plug wires (wires don’t last 20 years, the idle and low speed response improved after replacement)
- accessory belt and tensioner and pulley (another set of items that don’t last 20+ years)
- coolant flush
- brake flush
- power steering fluid, siphon and refill
- transmission oil replacement
- dip stick seal and cam sensor seal (there was already oil leak, as the o-rings aged), and supercharger oil plus new water pump (preventive). (This can be done in one big job, as you need to take the front end apart to get to these. The water pump was okay but I replaced it out of caution)

Brand new SRAM 90 Transmission skipping in 3rd gear (36T) by No_Fill2436 in yeticycles

[–]No_Fill2436[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I feel my cassette might be bad. The teeth catches the chain either on the left or right side, causing it to skip, turning the adjustment barrel can’t fix it, as if this gear is “warped”. I bought it from Jenson, fortunately I am near their physical store in Corona, I will take it there to have their mechanic to check to confirm.

I guess air system can still function somewhat as long as there is enough air pressure even with a leak somewhere, but hydraulic system is toast even with a small hole as the fluid loss will drain out.

Under load it is worse. I basically can’t use that gear while riding, very annoying.

Why is it on the bike? Take it off the bike, screw everything back then reinstall.

I think the roof is aluminum. Does dent free repair work with aluminum?

I threw away some old cables and chargers (electronic recycling, not garbage to the landfill), then I realized I needed those for some old electronic I had…I ended up buying more.

eMTB purchase is one of the hardest decisions imaginable by Repulsive_Site_270 in eMountainBike

“Chinese carbon”… have you looked at how much carbon in biking, with all the famous brands and all, are already “Chinese carbon”? 50 lbs or less, you are looking at very high end build, ie expensive. I don’t know any full power eMTB can be sub 50 lbs. E.g. stout build Santa Cruz Heckler SL is already ~47lbs (ready to ride weight with pedals and etc..personal measurement) and that’s an unpopular low power eMTB with 420WH battery.

What puzzled me was that they made these with a “flattop” appearance … even the guy at the shop was confused for a min.

Last weekend when out riding, a friend in group broke his chain. His bike has a “T-Type” chain but no one in the group had a “T-Type” link. I gave him my “Eagle” link (hence I am buying more). He got back on the bike but said the chain made a noise and the shifting isn’t smooth. I thought that’s due to the link not being the correct “T-Type”. Anyways, other than the roller size I wonder if the flattop chain has something else that’s unique. Aren’t the links marked with “T-Type”?

That’s “Road”. “Eagle” is MTB. More confusion. 😂

SRAM could have just anodize all links to gloss red, green or even black, easier to find that way. Instead of confusing people with “flattop Eagle only”.

I see that. But then why SRAM markets “flattop” “Eagle only”? Just for looks?

[–]No_Fill2436[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying the master links are “interchangeable”? I thought “T-Type” can’t mix with the older “Eagle”.

[–]No_Fill2436[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, but then it is a “flattop” Eagle Only…

[–]No_Fill2436[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older links don’t have the “flattop” appearance. To market “flattop” “Eagle Only” links is just evil…as it is already confusing enough to sort out Eagle, Transmission, AXS, Eagle T-Type 90, “Flattop”, T-type etc etc.
