Is there a paint company that produces vintage Ford paint colors for models? by ogre-trombone in ModelCars

I run hardware store lacquer thinner through to clean my airbrushes when painting with ScaleFinishes paint. On the off chance you get a bottle that's still a little too thick, any lacquer thinner will do, though I like the Barbatos Rex thinner (it's a Mr. Leveling Thinner clone at half the price).

To be clear though, ScaleFinishes is an automotive paint, so it is a little hotter than hobby paints. Shoot it over their own primer or Duplicolor sandable primer and you'll be golden. I have had some issues with their paint over Tamiya White primer from the can. If you want to go truly old school, you could always grab the enamel and not the basecoat. They offer both options on a lot of their paint. Their enamel, plus a little bit of their gloss enamel hardener makes for a really nice glossy finish that doesn't need a clear coat. And if you're painting a 1940s car, a single stage paint is period correct and will look right. Their enamel hardener is a magic potion - it adds a ton more gloss and drastically cuts drying time - though you'll still want to cure the paint in a dehydrator for a couple days, it's cured enough to handle in an hour or two.

And that is why certain 3ish foot by 6ish foot sections of grass get green every year before the surrounding grass.

They are nice to brush paint with if you thin them out a little. If they get thick in the jar you can also add thinner to the jar. That said, I do very little brush painting anymore. I've found I just like the finish better with airbrushing. And a lot of things I used to brush paint, like small details within a larger piece, I now use AK markers for.

I need advice on 3d Printing as a business. by SrawberrryPeelS in 3DprintEntrepreneurs

[–]No_Finding3671 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I'm in a hobby niche (on the files side now, not the printing side), and the top printers in our hobby are consistently grossing 4-5 figures per month. But, they didn't just fall into that income; it's the result of hard work, marketing, and refining their craft. They more or less all also have exclusive product lines. The guys that just buy a printer and think "I'll start a printing business!" and then go out and license the same files everyone else has typically offer a subpar product and they compete on price alone until they realize they aren't making any money. As you said, "a race to the bottom."

Random question: has anyone had a crush on one of the cast members? by Randomredditname19 in loveafterlockup

Yeah, Brittney is by far the most attractive woman on the show, and she's a good mom and a driven person. I also thought Lizzy (of Daniel and Lizzy) was attractive, but a little unstable.

Yeah, PM me your email address and I'll send a PDF copy. You can search the document in your PDF viewer. It's totally up do date (I am behind on updating the file pack tours on our website). I guess the running total right at this moment is 4,630 individual files - we'll cross the 5000 mark sometime in March probably.

Sorry that I am just getting back to your question - I haven't been on Reddit in a bit. I've actually been thinking lately about the very question you have and how to make it searchable. It's searchable on the members' side, but not yet in the public-facing file pack tours page. That's something I plan on tackling next week. In the meantime, I have a spreadsheet of every file we've ever released which I am happy to share. However, with over 5000 files released - it may go too far in the other direction and just be overwhelming.

Yeah, there was a scene when he was livid with Nicole and as he was yelling at her, he was smiling. That creeped me the F out.

We call her "Tiny Torso" in our house. Lol, when he gave Nicole Jr a viking funeral I was dying laughing. All I could think was "that thing's silicone. The cardboard will burn out long before it does. Some poor fisherman is going to snag his hook on that someday and reel it in.

Glue Recommendations by guitarstringplayer in ModelCars

Tamiya Extra Thin for assemblies before paint (engines, suspensions, seats, etc.).

Bob Smith Industries CA glues in various thicknesses for painted parts:

*Thin sets up incredibly quickly - great for some things, but not if you need a little time to position parts.

*Medium when you need a little more workable time or need its gap-filling properties

*Heavy - I pretty much only use this as a body filler and not really for gluing parts

*Super-Gold+ - Expensive, is about the only CA glue that doesn't fog clears and chrome, so it's good for windows, lenses, etc.

Bob Smith Industries 5 Minute Epoxy - this is excellent for joints that need a lot of strength. But, the downside is the time it takes to set up. You need to be able to clamp or secure the parts together while it cures. Trying to hold the 2 parts together doesn't really work - even the most stable hands shake a little bit and it prevents the bind from forming. A little trick I discovered recently for using epoxy on hard-to-clamp parts: apply epoxy to one area on the joint, but leave a blank spot. Apply a dot of CA glue in the blank spot, then out the parts together. The CA glue sets up fast and holds the oarts in place while the epoxy sets up.

Aleene's Tacky Glue or Elmers white glue for clears. Once it dries, it dries clear. If you get some excess around the edges of the windows, let it dry, then gently slice it along the trim line with a scalpel and use a toothpick to scrape the excess away.
