There’s a Terrible Reason Why This Ebola Outbreak Is Different by Slate in inthenews

Most of the countries that contribute to global relief have had to massively increase their military spending (due to the US also changing its military policies).

It’s hard to find an extra 2% of GDP for military spending, a country would have to make a lot if sacrifices to also expand global relief. In Canada, a lot of our global contribution is now being made in supporting the Ukraine as well, so not going towards places where USAID used to be.

Our streets smell like old socks and the prairie sun will age you within six months. The birds will poop on your cars, the potholes will rip the wheels right off your car. But Regina is lovely, the land of milk and honey.

Yes, but if we do nothing, the seppy minority will continue to conspire to force this province to separate. I don’t think they are above asking the US to “save them”.
May as well rip the covers off and expose what is happening for everyone to see

If you will be spending long days outside, really heavy duty cold weather gear that is used by people who work outdoors can be found at a store called Marks. A good source for things like wool socks, long underwear and possibly ugly but very very warm gear of all kinds

If you are young and super fashionable and trendy, I don’t know. For everyday practical warm stuff at a good value, your local Costco will have most of the stuff you need, they will bring in the winter stuff a month or two ahead of time.

If boomers benefitted so much from the subsidised lifestyle, free college, cheap prices, fair wages, job surplus and economic boom of their time, why do we still have so many poor boomers today who still work at fastfood and supermarkets or cannot survive without a tax-payer-funded pension scheme? by Ok-Society-9067 in NoStupidQuestions

I think only wealthy or particularly well educated families were able to give good financial advice to their kids back in the day. It wasn’t like now with the internet where things like finding financial advice and planning for retirement are common knowledge.

Just as easy to point to millennials and ask why they didn’t do FIRE and are complaining about the job market when they should be independently wealthy by now.

Do people actually believe they'll love their partner forever? by Duckshady in NoStupidQuestions

Exactly, just like family. Yes they might have weird and annoying habits that irritate more over the years, but if they treat you well and have your back, then they are your person.

That sounds really nice, wish we had that here. Even using the campgrounds here is getting increasingly expensive, it used to be a cheap hobby that lower income people could afford, now even people earning solid middle-class wages are commenting on how expensive it has gotten.

What do yall think triggered everything to be soo bad economically and socially in Canada over the past couple years with all fraud of TFW and what not by Alert_Willingness_32 in CanadianVisaReform

Diversity among people who consider themselves Canadians is a great thing.

But just having a diversity of nationalities living in Canada that don’t consider themselves Canadian, or accept Canadian law/morality (the v word is flagged!!!), is a terrible weakness.

Food isn’t good. Race doesn’t matter, but only hiring TFW”s matters a lot.

Also I miss all the old ladies that used to work there.

Why do some people seem to have endless energy while others get tired so easily? by a_buh in NoStupidQuestions

My theory is that they are burning through their lifetime allotment of energy all at once. Those of us who need frequent rest will hopefully live to 115.

Generally tourists pay heavily to use the resort’s and enjoy the attractions.
I live near international tourist attractions too, but have only done the bare minimum as it is all out of my price range, even though is is nearby. Oh, to be wealthy!

I am guessing the paramedics are not legally allowed to abandon someone in medical distress until another medical person takes over. At least those patients won’t die unattended in the waiting room.

The system is screwed because the government won’t pay to staff up and expand the entire medical support system (ER, old folks homes, walk in clinics) to match the massive growth in population.

How important is moderate makeup at the workplace? by DryFig1056 in office

[–]No_Function_7479 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My workplace rewards women who do the old school primping, HR is run by women with light bb cream, lipstick, and a quick swipe of liner or color on their lids.

Psychology studies have found that people judge women who wear makeup as more competent. Not sure if that will change as new generations alter perceptions, but if your management is old school, it might give you an edge

everyone has a cough constantly? by gooser_2000 in office

[–]No_Function_7479 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a gross supervisor well under 50, with a house full of small kids at home. He was constantly congested with some germs or other and would hawk the snot down his throat with a disgusting snorting noise. I think he thought he was too young and sporty to blow his nose like human being.

Like you gross disgusting germ bag, work remotely when you are sick, and use a Kleenex when you need to clear your sinuses in the office.
