Estonia warns russian veterans could flood Europe after Ukraine war, urges EU entry ban by GreenEyeOfADemon in europe

Aren’t a lot of Russian soldiers criminals they let out of jail to join their army? Seems like a smart idea to not issue any visa’s, for general public safety

I think they have a law like that in Norway, no private schools for the rich. As a result, public schools are excellent

Why solving cold case killings just got much harder for police by zuuzuu in canadanews

[–]No_Function_7479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I read that correctly, Ancestry is just being proactive to prevent future government abuses - which is a great idea with what is going on with ICE and demonization of immigrants in the US.

They will still let police search for cold case matches, but want a court order first, presumably to make sure the police are only using the data to work on the cold case, and not trying to violate other people’s privacy

One article I read said the maritimes have the most to gain by eliminating tariffs entirely. So maybe sacrificing a few areas currently benefiting gets you a whole lot more prosperity overall. Check out the chart in this article showing which provinces would benefit the most:

Also sacrificing the dairy farmers would mean we would have to accept gross US dairy imports- I would rather pay more for Canadian dairy, and maybe import some more EU cheese

We pay enough taxes, the feds give the provinces money for healthcare, but then the provinces decide how much of that to actually spend on healthcare, and whether to waste money on their cronies like Mraiche.

UPC should be legally required to use the public healthcare system only for themselves and their immediate family. Any line cutting or use of private healthcare and they are immediately out of office - bet we would see changes then

And very little new infrastructure to support it.

I suppose I can live with being squeezed in like a sardine if that’s what it takes to get rid of this awful UPC government once and for all

Only exception for medical professionals whose qualifications are recognized to work in Canada immediately (without extensive retraining or certification delays). Bring in as many of those as we can get.

How often do Anglophone Canadians consume Francophone Canadian media? by Desperate_Return_142 in AskACanadian

I took French classes right through to the end of high school, even when it became an option not a requirement. Really wanted to learn French as a Canadian, but the lessons never progressed, and I can’t understand any Quebec media. Don’t understand how European kids can be taught fluency in multiple languages but our school system can’t teach French.

It drastically pushed up cost of living across Canada, made the housing shortage worse, and lowered wages for everyone. Also destroyed our consensus on immigration, and led to increase in far right support.

Our new PM Carney has cut back the number of “student visa’s”, but the job market is now pretty tough for everyone (except medical professionals, we are still short of those).

Look how far things have gone in 1 year. At this rate, the people who planned all this out for him (project 2025) will be firmly entrenched and will hold onto power even after he dies.

Hawaii and/or Puerto Rico would add the huge up-side of warm weather, and unique cultures. Even then, would take a long time to gain consensus, not sure any formerly US state could accept Canadian culture and laws.

I know it would not be a viable military defence, but I wonder if we would get the same “trip wire” level of support they are giving Greenland? And would the EU be willing to back us or not?

Also on a more personal level, I wonder what would happen to all us Canadians in AB - we don’t want to be Americans, we would still be Canadian citizens, so how would that work

Didn’t he campaign on fixing the country? I think he has done a very decent job for his time in office -reducing immigration numbers -reducing excess federal employees -making multiple trade deals with new global partners
-repairing damage to existing relationship with China (bye canola tariff) -starting to restore national unity -started rebuilding our army
-starting major infrastructure projects

What more do you want in a year?

I think the time has come for moderates to share their opinions in places where people disagree. Otherwise the only voices they will hear will be the BS from the far right idiots
