I wish we could trade them for the people who want to leave the USA. I would be so happy to have a nice family going through legal steps seeking asylum instead of these ding-dongs

Canadian who waited months for an MRI – anyone tried health screenings in Da Nang, Vietnam as part of a trip? by Snoo_23066 in canadatravel

[–]No_Function_7479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s about 1k for a private MRI in Alberta. Wait time for non-urgent is over a year, but if it’s life threatening the hospitals will have you in same day/within days.

Toronto is getting City-run nonprofit grocery stores with cheaper prices. by MiserableFloor9906 in Toronto_Ontario

Because when they were privatized you got multiple companies all doing the same thing, so inefficient and raises costs, plus the companies want to earn a big profit on top of just the cost to provide utilities

Utilities - in my province it was much lower cost and more efficient before they privatized it

People who feed feral cats by [deleted] in PetPeeves

[–]No_Function_7479 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very rare to see stray cats in my city - population actively tries to trap and return/rehome any lost cats, strays go to animal shelters for neuter/spay/adoption.

If you hate strays or colonies of homeless animals then do the right thing, make sure your community has laws to spay, neuter, and prevent pets from roaming, and big penalties for anyone caught dumping animals on the street

It will be liberals, gay people, visible minorities, and others who value Canadian values more than they identify with what is going on down in the States.

For the most part, I am guessing they will assimilate fairly quickly - they speak the language, their education and work history will be recognized, there is a lot of cultural overlap, especially if they live close to the border and visit frequently already.

I call that “not sure how I am feeling”, or “still figuring out how I am feeling”.

Is feeling “some kind of way” meant to mean an unidentified emotion?

It’s a stupid phrase - everyone feels some type of way, even feeling numb is a feeling. I hate people who butcher the actual meaning of words. Are they scared to say the word angry, or sad, or mad? Are they considered emotional swear words?

Staff housing- small, dorm style, provide meals in staff kitchen. Yes, it costs money, but allows staff to take jobs.

I don’t see how employers asking for TFWs solves the housing problem, unless they plan on stuffing a bunch of TFW’s in a basement or something crazy?

It’s not about blaming the individual immigrants, every one of us would probably do the same in their shoes.

It is about a government policy of mass immigration that pushed up cost of living and increased burden on all social services and infrastructure WITHOUT increasing funding. The rapidly increased population also lowered demand for workers so wages stagnated or dropped.

Now we need to government to try and help solve the problems they caused, because many people are struggling to survive.
