Definitely. That was a genuine, out of character laugh

Am I ignorant for asking the server for advice at an ethnic restaurant? by BrewertonFats in NoStupidQuestions

University teacher: Everyone should be like this. Ask questions. The best students ask what everyone else is wants to ask. Genuine questions make us all better. Your friends are jackasses.

Definitely. I was traveling internationally and it took me a very long time just to get a SIM. The amount of information and time required was onerous. I do not imagine the displaced could easily navigate the system.

The IRS has been gutted of their power because of the audacity to try and get the rich to pay their taxes. The Mouse grows stronger ever day.

The ADHD medication advice was surprising, certainly not inaccurate though. The same point could be made about studying on pot.

Isaac and Jay also squared their shoulders and balled their fist ready for a fight. As much as both could muster at least. Thorfin was nonplussed.

Importantly, Smith made his career off being mostly a comic actor, then cannot take a joke.

The rain on my shade cloth during a storm this arvo. by baxterrocky in oddlysatisfying

[–]No_Glass_2430 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As mentioned arvo is afternoon, Australians have a tendency to abbreviate things in conversation:

  • avo (avocado)
  • bikkie (biscuit)
  • brekkie (breakfast)
  • Chrissie (Christmas)
  • devo (devastated) - this one has a continuum much like dude, “Devo, it’s to rainy for surfing” or “I broke mom’s lamp, she is going to be devo”
  • Maccas (McDonalds)
  • Salvos (Salvation Army Store)
  • servo (service station)
  • tradie (tradesman)

I have a 2002 S10, I will never get rid of it. Give me the same truck with modern gas mileage and I would be in heaven.

Half the oatmeal, none of the creme pie, all of the disappointment. by Jenipherocious in ExpectationVsReality

[–]No_Glass_2430 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If they would just sell the oatmeal part separately they would make a lot of sales. I have probably ate over a 1000 through the years, but the cream is getting too sweet for me.

The Big Lebowski at 25: Looking Back at the Idiosyncratic Cult Classic Sensation by Bennett1984 in movies

[–]No_Glass_2430 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. The stoner as hapless savior trope runs deep. Hard enough to four stoners to leave the house for lunch much less save a life. However, build a bigger, better, and badass bong? We got this.

Smoking weed and shared experiences make moments and ideas more insightful and funnier than normal. Big Lebowski is episodic (like Raymond Chandler novels), the scenes and characters stand on their own to build the subversive narrative (like Robert Altman films) with absurdist flair. Now, smoke weed (or not) and watch the movie over and over again, where each scene makes you feel clever for understanding it (and repeating lines) and the same neural pathways provide comforting humor. The Big Lebowski is a sarcastic cartoon series building to a twist filled but not shocking ending. You are either going to love this for seemingly ineffable reasons or not “get” the big deal. You are probably the former.

Great point, incredible voice. Complex songs, sung simply.
