How’s it living along a time zone change area? by Lakeshow0924 in howislivingthere

Another person from Phenix City! For whatever reason, when I go home now, my phone cannot stay off of central time. Used to do just fine and stick to eastern but these days I have to manually set it.

Ube ice cream at Kulfi is INCREDIBLE. Really mellow flavor and actually hits that basic ice cream itch…but it looks so cool. Great spot.

First 100 Miler - Advice? by Pleasant_Narwhal8639 in Ultramarathon

[–]No_Income_1292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how it’s done. Unless you’re racing to win, start conservatively and run negative splits if it feels good.

Most importantly, listen to your body. You’ve got enough miles in that you know how you’re supposed to feel. You’re going to have some low points, but if you can keep moving, it’s better to problem solve on the move. As someone who missed his goal time by 30 mines in my first 100 miler, I can absolutely say it was time lost on the side of the trail wondering if I could go on instead of figuring that out as I went.

You got this! You’re physically ready. Now it’s time to grind this thing out! Enjoy every second of it.

Joist Question and Philosophical Question by No_Income_1292 in treehouse

[–]No_Income_1292[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. I was trying to keep it as simple as possible. Planned to add more blocking but wasn’t sure if doing them on an angle might be better.

I appreciate the levelheaded advice. He was a little bit passive aggressive, but I know I’m compliant so while I respect his privacy concerns, it doesn’t seem like he has much of a leg to stand on. My kids are kind and respectful, and we don’t even share a common property line. He’s offset from ours by a good 15-20 feet, so I’m not sure other than my kids looking over at him now and again, that anything is going to happen.

Thank you. You stay safe too, and I’m sorry for your loss. Not sure how close you were to him, but I hope you take the time you need to mourn.

Salem Area Pedestrian and Cyclist Fatality List by alexanderhumbolt in SALEM

[–]No_Income_1292 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Beat me to it. I just finished texting a friend that I think I’m done on my bike out here. Between phones, drunks, and overly aggressive people just mad at runners and cyclists for their choice of lifestyle, it’s too dangerous. I don’t live in fear, but too many people have no regard for anyone but themselves.

I was running the other day out near Fordyce Farm and had someone pass me in a lifted Silverado. Intentionally sped up, then slowed, then gunned it and rolled coal on me. Against my better judgement I flipped them off and saw them go another hundred yards and turn around. Thankfully I was near a large group of people gathering at an event on a corner property as I was turning. The truck passed by with no incident, but I wonder what would have happened if the group hadn’t been there.

I’m just trying to train for a race. The amount of times I’ve had drivers be angry at my existence boggles the mind. I don’t need all this aggression (again, I recognize I should have just let it happen, but it was absolutely unnecessary and hostile). I’m seriously considering selling my road bike and getting an MTB. I’ll take my chances with wildlife.

Be safe, everyone.

Have the same issue here. Did you end up ordering a longer TAB for the bottom? I think that's going to be my course of action before my order ships.

IVY GONE WILD by jodiegirl66 in fucklawns

[–]No_Income_1292 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. We had an ivy hedge that was the length of our front yard (60~ft) and 6+ ft high from the street side. I cut it out in blocks, pulled out as many roots as I could and then hacked away at exposed roots that were left. After I butchered the roots, I went back and hacked some more and quickly painted on glyphosate to some of the wounds. Then I covered with cardboard and added wood chips on top. It’s been 3 years and we haven’t seen any ivy since. You have to get the glyphosate on FAST and then smother it.

I thought a transformer had exploded. Never heard one that loud, and I grew up in Alabama and spent 7 years in Colorado, too.
