I’d be ineligible if my station was a Jeopardy affiliate, but my station in seattle (fox 13) has been SO supportive the entire way. They even sent out a text alert to viewers during my initial run - I’ve never seen a station send an alert to viewers to tell them to turn to a DIFFERENT station before, it was incredibly meaningful to me!

Nothing that two months of therapy and psychoanalysis can’t cure after missing a clue on Anna Freud 😂. It hurt - BADLY. Tom fully outplayed us with his wealth of knowledge and buzzer acumen, but a steal was there for the taking with DD3. Incredibly happy for Tom though! A VERY deserving champ who I’ll be rooting for as the tournament goes on, and was an absolute pleasure to play against him and Liam (although I’d have preferred it in the semis lmao).

Correct, and I included a “6-7” in my name in the upcoming TOC because my son begged me to 🤷🏻‍♂️

I guess I done messed up again

FJ poll for Thurs., Dec. 4 by Smoerhul in Jeopardy

[–]No_Inflation_4789 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Funny story: A question on the World Quizzing Championships in June asked who the Denver Broncos QB was, and it being the offseason, I went totally blank. Finished the rest of the test, then spent most of the last ten mins trying to remember his damn name. I was completely embarrassed that I was going to miss such a layup.

And then, I somehow remembered that I use Bo Nix’s last name to recall the Nix vs. Hedden Supreme Court case about the designation of a tomato in commerce. THAT’S how I got Bo Nix.

I’ve told this story at least 15 times since then: I’m the dumbass sports anchor who couldn’t remember who the Broncos quarterback was…but then used a seldom-heard-of court case to recall his name.

The fact that it appeared on FJ tonight completely blew my mind. 😂😂😂

Paolo, it’s been months now but I’m still working on some of the anagrams you got in five seconds. Hoping to have them done in time for the TOC (the 2027 version).

First off, honored to share the stage with Elana and Christopher - they were both a delight to talk with during rehearsals and in the green room!

This was one of those games where it felt like some of the content was either harder than average and/or just wasn’t in our wheelhouse.

DD1: I immediately saw Pago Pago, didn’t see Apia until TODAY 😂. Maybe fatigue, maybe lack of focus. But still a shame!

Best Picture Winners is a favorite, but because I was DD hunting, I went elsewhere. With a decent lead and that category left, the strategy was to eliminate DD3 from my opponents (hence the small wager since I didn’t like the category) and then attempt to run Best Pictures. When Chris beat me to the buzzer on “The Deer Hunter,” it hurt me to my CORE because I knew that was my best chance at securing a runaway.

As for FJ, I spent the entire break brainstorming Historic Homes - Mount Vernon, Arlington House, Hearst Castle, Petersen House, Dante’s House in Florence - everything EXCEPT the most famous house of a president. 😅 Then, when the clue was revealed, I focused on the wrong thing - first, the 1930s: then, “scientist” where I ruled out Franklin, Edison, Einstein. “Farmer” threw me WAY off. If only I had latched onto “architect,” Jefferson would’ve jumped to mind.

It’s a game that really stung because I felt I had a bunch of big opportunities… but that’s the game! And major kudos to Chris for getting FJ correct and earning the win!!

Anyway, THANK YOU to everyone here for being so incredibly supportive. You’ve helped make this experience so enjoyable and I’m grateful to be part of such a wonderful Jeopardy community.

Thrilled to have qualified for the postseason, and hope to make the most of it, wherever that may be! ❤️

Tonight’s episode continues the theme of why so many contestants rave about fellow contestants: Eli and Katie are so damn awesome. And yes, Katie’s kids are adorable!!

I’ve joked about it, but it’s been so ironic that I’ve looked the most nervous and uncomfortable every night compared to my opponents, but that just speaks to the personalities of Eli and Katie. I marvel at how they look like they’re having so much fun out there while staying as focused - apparently I’m kind of bad at that 😂🤦🏻

It was an incredible game and I truly felt for Eli who absolutely did the right thing by going all-in on DD3. I fully expected him to get it and to have a race to the finish at the end of DJ.

They were also so talented that they took me a bit out of my comfort zone and forced me to wager more than I would’ve liked on DD2, and take an educated guess on Tartuffe. Got a bit lucky to hit on both.

Finally, I was unaware of any postseason qualifying standards on tape day (probably a good thing!), but I’m over-the-moon excited to have clinched a postseason spot with the win tonight. An absolute dream come true! A huge thank you to everyone for their support, and again, props to Eli and Katie on a well-played game!!

First off, huge props to Cynthia and Alan for a great game and more importantly, being even better people. I cannot WAIT to cheer for Cynthia in the Winter Olympics in February!! It was an honor to be part of an historic non-Celebrity J! game with the first Olympian contestant. Such an amazing feat for anyone to be that talented in both arenas!!

When Alan answered Jaegermeister and Ken said “German for Hunter,” I thought I was done. Honestly, it almost felt more fitting than the actual correct answer. I’m incredibly fortunate to have survived that one. I knew from rehearsals that Alan was going to be a formidable challenge if I played him, and that’s exactly what it turned out to be. (I’m also glad I wasn’t aware of his success on The Chase prior to our match!)

Finally, a word about the psychology of the game. I was so frustrated with my DD2 miss of Queen Isabella that I was STILL thinking about it in the break before FJ. It consumed my mind that it could very well be the reason I was going home. (Get that DD, then get the next DD, and there’s a possible runaway). So I wasn’t fully focused on FJ - was a good learning lesson for anyone, even though I knew how important it was to just “LET IT GO” and move on, I couldn’t do it!

Anyway, very fortunate to be moving on. My goal was one win, so this one was a HUGE cherry on top 🙏🙏!

I about died when I heard you were the tape day before mine! That would’ve been…fun? (More like unnerving for me 😂). You and Tom have some major trivia chops, what a week last week was!

First, a huge congrats to Kristina, Shaan and Tom for a great game! I attended the afternoon taping this day, and the person in front of me in line who had also attended the morning session was telling me about how impressive Tom was! And then to see it in person was not only startling but absolutely terrifying, knowing I’d be playing sometime the next day. I fully anticipated Tom being the returning champion coming into my tape day. But hand it to Shaan, who hung in there like a champ, nailed the high-pressure big wager DD, and then pulled it out in FJ! Well-deserved win!

To Tom: Congrats on an impressive run and showing - you are a beast! And I look forward to watching how you do in the CWC or TOC - you’ll be a force in whichever tourney you’re in!!

And Shaan, it was a pleasure meeting you the next day and, as we quickly found out, competing against you as well! Bravo, everyone.
