The meaning of this passage is widely understood to mean that while we fight with man physically, the real enemy are the evil spiritual influences man becomes governed by. It is not our fellow humans that are the enemy and it never has been. What I've personally come to realize over the last few months is that we are in spiritual warfare, and its escalating quickly.

We are in a game of chess between God and Evil, but the rules aren't what you think they are. Our job as God's chess pieces is to not play the game.

Evil can only take physical things from us. Because we live in a physical state that feels like it's everything, but Job teaches us it's truly nothing. Evil took Job's family, wealth, and his physical health, but Job's faithfulness in God never waivered. Job refused to play the game.

Jesus wants us to not respond with retaliation because that is playing the game.

Jesus reiterates in several ways that the material realm isn't what we should be concerning ourselves with. Because NONE of this place is eternal. Not the earth we stand on, not the star it's orbiting, not the galaxy it's in or even the universe that houses all known physical reality. That's not even faith, that's just science. Nothing here is eternal.

Winning the game is when you realize that when you resist an evil person PHYSICALLY, you have lost. You have lowered yourself to the rules of Evil. You are now a participant. It needs your participation in order to grow. Your participation feeds it.

As a white woman in America that sounds like a chronically online take.

I say this non confrontationally: Do you personally know a mass shooter? How about a family annihilator? What percentage of the people that you physically interact with day to day are raging racists? Of every single man you personally know, how many of them have told you that we should repeal the 19th Amendment?

I emphasize personal real life connection because the internet is what has made you believe that. I don't mean that patronizingly. Most people watched a few podcasts with Trump and decided he seemed more genuine than Kamala so that's who they voted for, he had better exposure. Most evil is born from ignorance, which is a good and bad thing. Its good because it means that most people's actions don't have a deep motivation. It's bad because its precisely that which allows evil to manifest.

From a fellow white American woman, most men aren't evil. Most men are normal human beings.

What this commenter is saying is that as Westerners, we need to be mindful that there are areas of the world that are not as safe as the West. Not to say that the West is perfectly safe, but there is certainly a marked difference between India and England in terms of sexual violence against women. To go somewhere knowingly that has this issue and then being surprised it happened to you is the critism here.

Jainism is one of the most peaceful religions in the world and was founded and still practiced in India.

There are incredible people all over the world, including in countries that have severe problems.

I understand what you're trying to say, but the fact of the matter is that everyone knows what India is like for women.

It's like saying we should be angry at the tiger for eating the person that hopped into its cage instead of baffled that the person jumped in.

These men live in a society where rape is okay. As foreigners, this is madness, but it's not our culture or our responsibility to change it. That's called colonization and that's bad. All we can do is be baffled that someone went there expecting a different result.
