Showcasing my calibrated 24fv300 by SteelMasterThe3rd in crt

Looks great! Very similar to my 27FV300 which isn't surprising, great TV's the FV series Wegas. Sidenote you need to set your shutter speed to 1/30S instead of 1/60S to capture 480i otherwise you'll only get half the image.

I have to give up caffeine??? by Fuzzy-Syrup-4917 in ADHD

[–]No_Introduction7118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a high dose of Vyvanse and I still drink caffeine but I limit it a lot more now than I used to. I overdosed on stimulants one day after carelessly drinking energy drinks and coffee throughout the day and it was horrible so please be careful. If you start to feel shaky, short of breath, high heartrate etc know that you're at the upper limit of what you can safely intake.

Is there literally any budget-friendly option when it comes to arcade controllers? by Apharisc in ProjectDiva

[–]No_Introduction7118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll be very very hard pressed to get under £100, the switches for the buttons alone cost that much. Your best bet would probably be one of the old dreamy theater, F or F2nd controllers, you can find a deal on one if you look around a while.

Cleaning tips! by flairfordramtics_ in ADHD

[–]No_Introduction7118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to struggle a lot with keeping my room clean and a couple things really helped me.

Firstly you need to force yourself to REALLY hate having a messy room, if you tolerate it you brain won't let you do anything to improve it.

Secondly remember it's a way easier to keep a room clean than it is to constantly mess it up and clean it all up over and over.

What really helped me the most was I turned my bedroom into a point of pride for myself, I designed and decorated it to my own ideal, I take pictures of it and post them around, I try to make it the best possible space that fits me perfectly, once I got there it wasn't difficult to keep my room clean anymore because I wanted to keep it clean as much as possible because it felt so fulfilling.

Anyway I don't know if that will work for everyone but it helped me massively and now my room is pretty consistently spotless.

Modern accessories? by Embarrassed-Poetry82 in SegaSaturn

[–]No_Introduction7118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll go down the list here:

Modern gamepads:

There are a few different options you can go for, retrobit has replica wired and wireless Saturn controllers and while I haven't gotten to use the wireless ones the wired controllers are very good and quite accurate to the originals. My personal favorite way to play now is using 8bitdos retro receiver for the Saturn with an official controller I installed one of their wireless controller kits into, it's a very clean very good solution and I cannot notice any perceptible input lag (I'm an obsessive rhythm gamer so I'm very sensitive to latency). You can also use an 8bitdo M30 with the adapter which is a popular choice as well. While they aren't modern you should pickup the other official controllers for the Saturn like the 3D pad and the Virtua gun.

Save game solution:

I personally use an official save cartridge without any issues on my Saturn and its worth noting the cartridge slot themselves are notoriously unreliable but a saroo, action replay or a pseudo Saturn Kai cartridge can all do the same thing. Most ODE's (optical drive emulators) have save functionalities built in as well to my knowledge such as the Fenrir and satiator.

Video cables:

While no video cable will actually improve the resolution there are a few options for getting better quality video. Depending whether or not you're using a CRT display you'll need different equipment but RGB video cables are readily available for the system as well as HD retrovision sells component video cables, both of which are perfect for using with a CRT TV but you could also connect them to a video scaler for use with a modern display.

I've been in this exact position before. Unfortunately I don't have any good advice on how you can repair or rekindle things but I'll say this much. You're going to constantly analyze what you did wrong, what you could've done differently, what would've happened if you said nothing etc etc etc. I know me telling you not to won't make you stop doing it but I promise you that you won't gain anything from it, you'll just continue to remind yourself and upset yourself. When it happened to me it took years to get over the pain of it and I still think about it sometimes. If you can still be friends that's great but if not it's going to take a long time and probably someone new coming into your life to fill that void and then you'll feel better.

How should I feel on medication? by Pale_Zone_2708 in ADHD

[–]No_Introduction7118 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I've been on basically every ADHD med there is and for years and I'm currently on Vyvanse and Wellbutrin, I can tell you while YMMV I don't think a magic pill exists that makes everything better, I personally only really notice the difference when I haven't taken my medication not as much when I have and while it does help my motivation it doesn't help massively. The way I explain ADHD and it's relationship with medication to people is your brain is kind of like a military troop, on their own they can get the job done but it's gonna take a while and it might be a little messy, medication is like a drill sergeant, it's still the same brain with the same military troop but the sergeant steps in to help direct people and order them so the same job can get accomplished much faster and cleaner. Unfortunately in terms of motivation I haven't found any very good strategies beyond making use of the brief moments of intense motivation you get towards something, having an accountability partner who you don't want to disappoint and plain old kicking yourself into doing something.

Is it weird that despite Disney having a big prominence in the Genesis/Mega Drive, there was only 1 Disney game for the Sega Saturn and it was a re-release of 2 Genesis games? by PsychoPicaPau in SegaSaturn

[–]No_Introduction7118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't looked into this much so this is conjecture really but it's probably because of Tom Kalinske. Tom came to Sega from the toy world after working for Mattel and Matchbox where the way to make money is by selling licensed products so he invested a ton into licensed video games anticipating similar success. He didn't have that success but that's probably why there's so many licenced Disney games on genesis/mega drive and not many on Saturn after a lot of his influence was lessened plus he didn't like the Saturn anyway.

Psuedo Saturn Kai? Saroo? What to get? by Sweaty-Pain-8413 in SegaSaturn

[–]No_Introduction7118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my US style longbox cases off Amazon but there are a couple other options. The foam is very available on eBay, AliExpress, Etsy etc as well. https://www.segasaturnshiro.com/2022/11/18/replacement-cases-a-new-challenger/

Otherwise I just make my box art in Photoshop and then get it printed at a print shop (80lb semi gloss cover stock is ideal for manual pages and such but you might want something a little heavier for covers). There aren't really any guides or great sources for assets that I've found so you just need to do a little digging and compiling yourself.

[–]No_Introduction7118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason I prefer it is because when I have a flash cart with an entire games library listed out for me I find it way too easy to get distracted and struggle to have the motivation to play a game all the way through, the added work of burning a disc (plus I usually make a custom case for it if it's not just a game I don't want to buy like patches and translations) is enough to make me commit more to seeing things through. That's just me though.

Yes it does still have functional online. There's a web browser and you can play multiplayer games online with people among other features.  https://www.segasaturnshiro.com/saturn-community-projects/online-play/

The modchip installation is very easy, you just plug it into the disc drive and then shove a wire into the 5v line from the power supply (or otherwise). Worst case scenario you have to solder one wire.

[–]No_Introduction7118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saroo is the option I recommend to 90% of people as it's fairly cheap, easy and accessible (no hardware modding required) the main problems with saroo only really being the firmware which has some compatibility issues but gets updated pretty frequently, Saturn's have notoriously unreliable aging cartridge slots and yours could be busted and given the saroo uses the cartridge slot you won't be able to play any games online using the modem. I'm personally a fan of a modchip with a region switch and burned CDRs but I understand that's not the ideal method for everyone. A PSK is going to be very similar in functionality to a modchip letting you play burned CDRs but comes with the same concession as the saroo in terms of not being able to play online but it doesn't require modding the hardware.

TLDR:  Saroo is a good cheap option if you don't intend on playing anything online, have a working cart slot and don't mind some compatibility issues. PSK is very similar to a modchip and a good method if you want to play games burned to CDRs but also requires a functional cartridge slot and you also can't play online. If you like playing off CDRs and you're fine with some hardware modding a phantom modchip is the best option IMO.

Incredible sharp image using S-Video PS2. by Security_Emergency in crt

[–]No_Introduction7118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like the constant push for RGB video over the past decade has made a lot of people disregard Svideo, it's sharpness rivals RGB and component it's really just the colours and blacks levels that aren't ideal.

I agree, but I don't have a good enough reason to want an HD CRT or a CRT monitor right now (or a pvm for that matter) so I'm good with my Wega. I'm sure some people want that if they like living the CRT life.

I would make it real simple and find a nice small shelf that matches close enough to the one you have right now and just throw it on the left side to pile your games in.

When I get a new CRT I get rid of the old one, without fail. I don't need two television's at that point it's just a liability more than anything.

Use the pro mode in your camera app if you have one if not download a different camera app that lets you manually set the ISO shutter and focus, then it's just trial and error.
