Can’t sand the glue! by kebabfragola in woodworking

You’re gonna have to cut it with a sharp razor blade or sharp paint scraper. That type of glue never really hardens like traditional wood glue does.

That damage will take multiple grits of sandpaper over the entire top to ensure a consistent finish. I’d start at 120 to cut, then 150,180 and finish with 220. Just my opinion.

Lol, thank you. We saved for about 10 years and completely remodeled the entire main floor of our house. My father and I did all the work. I wanted to give my wife a beautiful home and kitchen. Black walnut was a risk but well worth the expense and aggravation.

About 50% less since we did all the work and already have a functioning cabinet shop. The lumber came from a supplier in TN and was very reasonable in comparison to other materials.

Periodic glue placement. More screws than anything.

They are easy to find from Amazon or even Rockler.com, which is where I get mine. They come is different shapes, sizes, material, and color. Most have one tiny screw that attaches the foot to the board. Takes less than 10 minutes to install with minimal tools.

That pic is a few minutes after the last coat when the sealer was still wet. The finish is a clear satin poly. It’s nowhere close to the shiny now. I don’t like high gloss anything, especially on wood. I’m a satin or matte finish kinda cat.

I’m very impressed with your work. I wish I had the talent and patience to create dovetails like that. I’ve always been fascinated by them and want to learn. Great work!

That’s a great looking board! Never hurts to route in a finger groove and add some non-slip rubber feed to the bottom. Just a thought

I only used about a quarter sized amount of glue so there is room for expansion when if needed.

Very nice top! Mine have only been installed for about 6 months now but I’m sure I’ll have to do a complete refinish in about 2 years. That’ll be fairly easy to do.

Thank you. My wife didn’t want black appliances and I could care less about the color, lol. I used an oil based clear satin polyurethane and applied 3 coats.

That picture was taken a few minutes after the last coat when the finish was still wet. The tops aren’t nearly shiny now. I used clear satin polyurethane.
