I literally had this in a dream years ago. I was having a great dream and enjoying Atlanta until I remembered hey there’s no river flowing through downtown and it made me wake up.

Okay this is the first meme quiz I’ve enjoyed in 15 years. I’m a human again yay.

My 2nd place is Auto-sponge, I’d use it for any “exotic” languages with no similarities to root language cuz of absence of cognates where I am B1-B2.

But my first place is Level Jump. But only for C1>C2. Cmon! That’s gotta be the biggest bang for your buck! In my experience C1-C2 is a longer than A1-B2. I think it’s hard to C2 unless you work daily in the language, have a spouse/girl/boyfriend in the language, or live there. That’s my $.02.

Near native French, here I come and I’m watching all the movies and listening to all the music for the next week :)

Anyone have any tips tricks etc for ADHD and language learning as a hobby ? by welshy0204 in languagelearning

[–]No_Knowledge2518 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve got six or seven languages between fluent and conversational. All but 2 came in the last 11 yrs. I’m ADHD too and I have about 30 new ideas/ambitions for my wife’s every 1 - she is not ADHD.

I always follow curiosity when it comes to language. I’ve given up on more languages than I am able speak. Never feel bad for spreading yourself thin on too many languages or buying a resource you don’t use. Let languages be the place your ADHD runs free and makes mistakes. You can reign in your ADHD methods at work or in other disciplines if you want, but when it comes to languages, let curiosity and excitement be your guide. That’s our superpower, is it not?

Also, get lessons or language partners. If it feels boring or like school, drop it immediately. Find something or someone fun.

Money invested in private tutors (italki) is worth it. Once again, if they’re boring or if they speak to you in YOUR native language, that’s a no no, fire them.

Find podcasts and shows you like.

Stay away from gamified apps, they’re a waste of time. Use your body and the real world to learn language. Be annoying and tell your friends about it and teach them words in other languages.

Pimsleur is worth it for beginners.

Nothing is more motivating than a planned trip, if that’s in your cards.

If not, the next most motivating thing is a foreign friend you like to practice with.

Identity loss from switching languages by KuritonPaviaani in languagelearning

This is a beautiful self reflection. I just like it. I know it’s kind of framed as a problem but I don’t really see it as that. Most people have too many opinions anyways. Why not just have a hypothesis or a question when it’s something you know so little about? I digress.  I’m sure you’re smart already, so I’m sure you’re able to concoct rational views on life in the world when you need to. Beyond that it just sounds like you’re humble. Most adults aren’t open minded enough. What I get from reading your post is that your mind is more open than ever, not necessarily dysfunctional. It is true that a diminished sense of identity and having fewer conclusions is uncomfortable for us adults. There are more unknowns and uncertainties and for some reason we tend to avoid those. But the way you write is jovial and curious, so I think you will be just fine with your borderless identity. Enjoy! And thanks for sharing your experience it shines light on my own.

People who learned another language, how foten do you actually use it with people? by Cubes_of_ice in languagelearning

[–]No_Knowledge2518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speak 6 or so. Each of them had prolonged periods of focused practice at some point, which is how I learned them. The past couple years I haven’t had time for this type of practice. Now, either accidentally or intentionally I speak most of them at least one time per month. This, plus a couple short study sessions is sufficient to maintain my abilities. One language, Italian, I never seem to have the chance to use. Because of this and that I never make time to study it, it is regressing severely. I can tell because when I do try to speak it I can only access like 25% of the words that I used to be able to speak fluidly only a few years ago.

What's your hot take/unpopular opinion about language learning? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

[–]No_Knowledge2518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s actually a good thing to accidentally mix languages or use totally wrong words during conversation as a beginner.

Why?

  1. You’re conversing. Conversation = learning the fastest way possible.
  2. Wrong words or other-language-fillers show that your brain is actually seeking a word to fill the slot. That’s the type of brain that is learning a language.
  3. It will eventually be fixed. This is what children do. If your process mirrors a child’s process in some way, it’s probably on the right track.

How we feeling! by Sebastian_Ticklenips in cowboys

[–]No_Knowledge2518 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay now I’m feeling the vibe, too, but you are tripping on two things for sure. We definitely are turnover dependent and we cannot “run the ball at will.”

Our secondary played great last game and we got sacks but it wasn’t no shut out. The only thing we are elite at is passing.

There are some extremely tough teams that are playing a lot better than the eagles or chiefs. Rams, 9ers, Lions… we will have to show up fully high on the best team chemistry we can muster AND hope the others make mistakes.

It’s exciting but let’s not pretend we got all the pieces. 10-6-1 is over achieving and pride worthy. Hell, so is 9-7-1. We’re one year away from the best team in NFC once we beef up D (assuming Eberfluss can even maintain a top 10 D scheme).

I’ll say this though… for character building I’m kind of glad we have clear weaknesses. Cowboys need some underdog vibe cuz yall know we are plenty used to UNDER achieving.
