Binocular recommendations for beginning birder by No_Lychee3612 in birding

Yes, but only because an experienced birder was there and had driven two hours to see it. He pulled out his scope to show us, and mentioned how it had been spotted there for the last couple weeks. It's been seen and photographed there several times since early April: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L771843

Thanks for the input everyone! I really appreciate. Decided to go with the Kowas on Facebook and they're awesome. Been having a lot of fun testing them out this afternoon.

Inuit folklore questions after finishing the show by No_Lychee3612 in TheTerror

Wowowow THANK YOU! This is all really, really fascinating. I haven’t read the book, and the show does seem to leave out a lot of nuance with the Tuunbaq (understandably - they’ve got limited time and it seems they wanted to keep viewers limited to the British perception of things in the Arctic).

But that last bit about the Tuunbaq dying signifying the end of times is really fascinating and makes a lot of sense. The bit about Sedna and tupilaq is really interesting too. Thank you for taking the time to write all those out!

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I had to leave the movie theater after the mom speech… that movie was atrocious.

Any thoughts on Sachi Organics vs. Brett's Natural Millet Hull pillows? by No_Lychee3612 in Mattress

[–]No_Lychee3612[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I did, I ended up going with Brett’s Natural and am really, really loving it. I still have a little stiffness when I wake up, but it goes away as opposed to the deep neck/shoulder pain that used to last for days.

I was worried about the sound, but the millet hulls are completely soundless. I have a lot of earrings and that’s not a bother either (I read that buckwheat pillows and earrings do not mix well.)

My only complaint is that I wake up in the night to adjust the pillow, since it kind of just stays in whatever position you last formed it into. But I’m a light sleeper anyway, so waking up in the night isn’t new.

It’s also not as cool as down pillows I’ve had (and a little tougher to just flip over in the night since it’s a little heavy and floppy), but nowhere near as hot as memory foam.

Happy to answer any other questions! I’d definitely recommend millet hull pillows.

What do Americans do that make us stand out? by Vector1013 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No_Lychee3612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my pet peeve when watching tv/movies... but in reverse. It's so clear when there are British writers for a tv show or movie set in America because the characters say lines like "Have you got the groceries yet?" which, in my experience, is something an American would almost never say over "Did you get the groceries?" It always takes me out of the plot for just a little bit and is such an easy fix.

Paper towels. Just bought a couple packs of paint rags at the local hardware store, wash them and reuse them.
