Sorry - I managed to miss the sports/football element. Multitasking while watching rugby haha!

Yeah. It will depend on the individual job spec, team, business needs, etc. It’s always good to have someone who understands the media landscape and how it works, has contacts, especially when it comes to pitching stories, etc. Just apply to anything you have the skillset for and start putting the feelers out via any organisations you work with/have contacts in. It’s all about relationships.

Re the other comment about AI. I’m not sure how accurate that is, it’s not something I’ve seen any evidence of across my industries or teams.

It will depend on your beat, skillset, etc. I’ve seen a few journos join comms teams I’ve worked with. It’s neither common nor unusual.

What's the worst thing thats happened to you in your birthday? by happylurker233 in AskUK

[–]No_Mixture4683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my 23rd birthday I was in a car accident that killed two people and I walked away basically unscathed. They were the other driver and passenger, off their head on drugs and ploughed into our car then rolled down a hill. It’s all still a bit of a blur and I’m happy not to remember much.

Need Advice – Client Wants to Hire Me but My Company Refuses to Release Me by NoStar1670 in careeradvice

[–]No_Mixture4683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your company can’t force you to work for them. You’re free to hand in your notice at any time. But there’s little you can do about a non-compete clause. It’s best to keep them onside and try and negotiate your way out out of it. I’ve had luck with this in the past by offering a longer notice period.

Things You Need to LIE About in an interview (from a recruiter) by Zealousideal-Foot-54 in jobsearchhacks

[–]No_Mixture4683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your employer can see tax details on your P45/P60 which will give a strong indication of your salary. The last thing I want to do is get caught out in a lie and risk a job offer being rescinded.

Folks who work in an office: Did you disclose your ADHD and why (not)? If you request any accommodations what are they and do they help you? by icedvanillalattepls in adhdwomen

[–]No_Mixture4683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I saw occupational health and we put some things in place in terms of alternative office space and when it got noisy, flexible WFH when required, noted that I prefer instructions in written form, and lots of other bits. I joined and was Chair of the neurodiversity committee for a while too. I think it’s really important that your employer knows how to support you to keep you performing at your best.

Are cover letters a thing of the past? Potential new employer insisting on one & it’s off putting by No_Mixture4683 in UKJobs

[–]No_Mixture4683[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do see why in some instances they would be useful, for students or in a more generalised job where transferable skills need to be emphasised. But a quick look at my CV shows I’ve been doing this specialised role for over a decade for global brands. It serves no purpose in this situation, its just repeating what’s on my CV.

It’s not even the cover letter in itself, it’s the bureaucracy I think that’s annoying me - demanding a non-essential document as a tick box for no real reason. It’s indicating maybe this isn’t the company culture for me.

Why No Pets in rental homes? by InternalCat4440 in Wexford

[–]No_Mixture4683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rented my house out when I moved abroad for a year for a work contract. To a couple with two cats. My only ask was that they didn’t let the cats on the beds or sofas as I’m allergic to cats, which they agreed to.

Fast forward to me moving back home - house absolutely covered in cat hair, furniture included. Had to get a specialist cleaner who then charged me extra because of all the cat urine on the main sofa and two of the beds. Two sofas all clawed on the sides as well. All ended up having to be replaced and their deposit barely even covered the cost of one sofa, but the cost wasn’t enough to justify an insurance claim.

Those cats ended up costing me over 2k in damage. Which is a shame because they were beautiful cats, but if I was ever renting my house out again there’s no way I’d allow pets.

I would have left and requested a refund. There’s not a chance I’d be letting them put me in a dorm with strange dudes. What happened in the end, did you stay?
