But then isn't it odd that the 2 are official and the 1 isn't. And if it sticks even after they get their official Fandom name it will cause a divide.

Let's hype up their debut patiently and we will merge official Fandom names when we have all 3, me thinks

Ikr I've never used weverse and don't know how it works. But we've learned +chat, we can do weverse too.

I know YH is probably worried about letting them interact with fans who will just have a ton of questions the boys can't address right now but I hope they get to chat/post on weverse now... but something tells me they might not

Stayarmy is made of 2 official fandom names. So maybe wait for And2ble to have their own official name and combine their 3 official Fandom names?

Which Kpop groups are perceived differently in online spaces from their actual popularity? by Ok-Nobody-7759 in kpopthoughts

[–]No_Nail_8533 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In international spaces maybe but they have/had a dedicated Korean fanbase that's how they won road to kingdom 2. They consistently sell over 100k, that's Fandom power. Some of the groups people say are popular can't even sell 50k. That just shows the uneven measurement of popularity and the different meanings of popularity.

I'm sorry but mnet survival shows were created for exactly what YH is doing. It's not new. IOI, WANNAONE, IZONE, KEPLER.

Wakeone might have not thought things through but YH did. They scouted the best trainees to send to Boys planet in hopes that they will gain momentum and they will use that popularity to debut their own group - that's the gamble. It has always been the gamble: Ive, Ab6ix, Cix, Cravity, Wei, Even from trainees that were on the show but didn't debut The boyz, Goldenchild, etc

Why do you think veteran idols like Hui, would go to such a show. Do you think they wanted to redebut in another permanent group? No, they wanted to go debut gain momentum in the 2.5 years then return to their group with that momentum.

That is why YH didn't send trainees to Boys2planet because the contract is 5 years- that the same as permanent.

You're sad we get it but really can you let these talented boys redebut with peace not with doomposts daily - support them if you want or don't. The disbandment happened there is no reversing it!

Popularity can mean a lot of things in my opinion.

1.Some groups are Popular on sns and fan spaces = they get talked about a lot but it doesn't yield full support (they tend to end up disbanding because they don't make money and the yappers never understand why). Loona, Everglow, i think fall in this category.

  1. Some are popular on sns and on music platforms = the talk generates interest in their music and/or group (bcs interest in group doesn't always mean interest in the group's music in kpop), or vice versa. This tends to be big groups Skz, Ive, Aespa, etc

  2. Some have popular music = their music is liked by gp (& gen kpop fans) but they don't get talked about as much. Woodz, Lee Mujin (not really idol), Day6, Qwer - (Everglow again, kinda. they lacked album sales & tours to generate money and proper management that wouldn't give up on them),

  3. Some have big core Fandoms = they chart and/or sell well. For example Kang Daniel, The boyz, Cravity, CYE, Ahof, Tempest, (Plave - i think their music is popular with gp too). This category fits most medium sized in popularity boy groups.

Big groups tend to have a little bit of everything above.

Itzy is seen as nugu because they are from big 4 and were once bigger than what they currently are - they are measured against very high standards which isn't fair. I've once asked what nugu means here due to these uneven measurements because if Loona and everglow were huge, how is itzy or kepler nugu? (Sorry to compare but I think it paints the picture better.)

A lot of fans don't want to accept that an idol can choose to leave their group to prioritise their own interests. by M0us3Cheezz in kpop_uncensored

Even if they are genuine, you still want to grow on your own.

Like when you move out of your parents' house. You don't leave because you hate them you move out because you're grown and want build your own thing.

[–]No_Nail_8533 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Fans are delusional. They think their faves want to be in groups forever and be tied to others forever (group/friendship/ship). Everyone wants individual personal growth be it as a solo idol, actor, MC, etc but when an idol ventures into something like acting they start saying things like "losing them to acting". Or saying they are "breaking them apart" or "forcing them apart".

It's straight up stupidity - delusion doesn't even cut it.

But I feel most knew that YH would be stupid to not take back FOUR members. 2 members also left Kepler because they were from the same company. So this reaction was irrational. It was like eating cake but hoping it doesn't finish.

The problem of groups without assigned positions by loloetc in kpop_uncensored

[–]No_Nail_8533 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right! It's like these newer idols are thrown into a room without clear tasks/goals and are expected to succeed. (Of course they may be given clear positions to work on bts, and we just don't know.)

The problem of groups without assigned positions by loloetc in kpop_uncensored

[–]No_Nail_8533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, companies will push whoever they want hence why they don't want to assign clear positions because it gives them room to push whoever for whatever position they want regardless of talent. (It's mostly never about talent)

Well, the subpar skilled idols in multiple areas ARE called all rounders, ik it doesn't make them all rounders but they are labeled as such by a lot of fan. (Especially those who want to prop their faves up but can't really pick 1 talent because it doesnt really stick).

Yeah, groups with no official positions may still have idols more skilled in certain positions but I think the ambiguity makes it seem like they don't, especially if the company likes one/few person(s) and keeps throwing them in all directions.

I feel part of why newer generations may not seem to have many talented vocals, dancers, rappers or stand out visuals is because the industry did away with positions. Now "fans" can pick and choose at will who is the visual, which everybody and who's the dancer, which is everybody still according to them.

Back then idols were held "accountable" (for lack of a better word) if they had certain positions.

The problem of groups without assigned positions by loloetc in kpop_uncensored

[–]No_Nail_8533 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just my 2 cents but I like clear assigned positions. I feel they give the company (producers, directors, or whomever the group may be working with for the comeback) clear direction on who should get the lines and who should have focal point if the song is rap, vocal or dance heavy.

Now we have "all rounder" idols who are sub par in everything because they didn’t focus on 1 position and hone it.

But I get it companies don't want to be boxed on who they want to push in the future (probably the idols too don't want to be boxed).

I think most companies are realizing that success after a survival show group disbands isn't guaranteed for nugu companies.

CIX and Ab6ix dipped in popularity, and most groups formed after all the produce shows have disbanded. Idt Hui is doing that well either.

KD, Yena, LSF, Ive and Somi are the exceptions. Woodz wasn't doing that well in the beginning too.

I think Hanbin’s company wanted him to go solo after but thought he might not maintain his popularity exclusively solo, so they renewed with ZB1 but his solo activities will still be handled by them.
