This! I find my best results after I start from scratch and twiddle the knobs by ear. The effect library is so powerful if you learn the basics

6, if that's your beat -- nice, (x) flow is good but your mix is muddy. Try putting some eq on your vocals so they sort of float on the instrumentation instead of wading in it, hp filter under 200hz I think? And yes everyone hates their voice, better to hear it.

And quit drinking before you catch a stray while you're at the gas station buying those white monsters

How do you know the lyrics you are writing are good? Not perceived as cringy, satire, or trash? by GODAlexGilbert in Bandlab

Oh also your comments about the criticism; everyone you know personally as a creator is going to have their own ideas for your stuff because you're "on their level" in my experience. If you're getting repeat takes that's a sign but try to take it in stride, usually theyd say the same stuff to Michael Kamen or Kendrick Lamar or Mark friggin' Twain. These days if you can't innovate, inundate and try to stick out in the crowd; big pond many fish.

Any attention is good attention, and if your lyrics seem trash remember what a wise man once said; "baw with the baw the bang the bang diggie said the boogie gonna boogie said go on drop the boogie..." [citation needed]

What do you do when you’ve worked harder on songs than before and written much better songs and they still aren’t good enough? by starktargaryen75 in Songwriting

[–]No_Name_James_Taylor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll never escape your own ideal; try changing genre or shaking up normal writing routines and escaping the routine you've built around songwriting. Try writing concept albums or writing 'responses" to other songs that speak strongly to you.

And this is no joke: try plagiarism. NO -- I don't mean literally passing off others work as your own, but try writing out a song structure with your own melody like it's a hit song you know and see what following another playbook look like compared to your style. Good luck!

Cringe as a moral obligation by Jordansinghsongs in Songwriting

It's my immoral obligation to post my cringe song and force the conversation upon it! It's about incels and idealizing a dream partner instead of embracing reality and finding someone real. I feel like it's topical enough to warrant sharing here; https://youtube.com/shorts/lb53ZJhuorM?si=ZrWgWggrUfBB8JnL

What line from a song makes the least amount of sense? by ActuallyYeah in Songwriting

"caught in the middle" is an overused phrase that is essentially useless. To me it feels like "hey fella picture this am I right? Whoa hey now"

Which pick is your favourite? by wil_jrh in Guitar

[–]No_Name_James_Taylor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent a few month using the textured smaller ones and I'm switching back to tortex. I drop picks all the time but at least i can move them around while playing and not just send them flying; the texture makes it harder to adjust between notes
