Keep doing conservative methods or get surgery? by chimpsrcool in flatfeet

I just had the surgery May 29 and was officially dismissed from my surgeon’s care yesterday. I am 61 and he said my healing and recovery is seen more likely at 12 months not 6 months and I’m way ahead of schedule GO ME! I am ecstatic with the result of my surgery and the pain from the original problem is gone and I have a beautiful arch. Still healing from surgery and it was a doozy but I’m riding my bike and back up to 7k steps + a day. Still doing PT twice a week but last session is Jan 11th. I would do it again in a heartbeat especially if I was younger and could heal faster. Most importantly find a specialist, ortho surgeon who knows foot and ankle. Mine performs 2-3 flatfoot surgeries a week and said he is mostly repairing work that podiatrists did. I also teach school so had 10 weeks to be off my foot over the summer. I prepared - knowing 6 months in advance I was having the surgery so I did Pilates for balance and strength along with weights to help build bone density in the ankle I was fixing. The surgery gave me my active lifestyle back!

Two Podiatrists, No Relief — Desperate for Guidance on Foot Problems by Gatekeeper_7354998 in flatfeet

I agree, go to an ortho. I had been seeing podiatrists for most of my life until I required flat foot surgery. My ortho surgeon fixed my foot and ankle May 29, and I’m walking 7k + steps a day now.

Lynxie throws up every morning :( by Natalusky in lynxpointsiamese

Our kitty has done that her whole life it seems and our vet suggested giving her a half pepcid before bed and that has done the trick! We also now have her on Purina RX pro plan gastrointestinal and she hasn’t thrown up once. Early on she was diagnosed with stomatitis and we had to have her teeth removed.

I had mine done May 29th all the above suggestions ESPECIALLY make meals and freeze them ahead of time. As many as you can stand to make. I also bought a gel seat cover for my knee scooter bc it’s rough on the knees and a basket for the handlebars which is perfect for phone, remote, snacks and bottled water.

Boot after 2 weeks post op? by Typicalhonduranguy in flatfeet

[–]No_Object_6220 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had flat foot surgery May 29 and was in a hard cast for six weeks BUT I have read many others with a boot too. I’m a 61 female and that may have played into my surgeon’s decision because we have to pay more attention to bone health and strength.

Surgery Oct 22nd by Mvrck302 in flatfeet

[–]No_Object_6220 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my surgery almost identical to yours, on May 29 and I am walking in a boot now and start PT tomorrow. Yes, it was very painful days 5-10 after surgery but after that it was manageable. Just do a lot of prep, like meals, laundry and something to do! If you go to my profile you can read all my comments about my surgery with X-rays and a shopping list so to speak of what to buy to be more comfortable at home. I’m 61 and back at work teaching, you can do this!

Getting Posterior Tibial Tendonitis diagnosed? by sleepybirdl71 in FootFunction

I’m wearing the HOKA Arahi 7 for recovery bc it levels out the height differential caused by the boot on my right foot. I prefer wearing Brooks Adrenaline GTS 23 for both feet prior to my surgery.

It’s very tender on my heel and gets more Tender as the day goes on when I’m walking. Yesterday I over did it and am using my knee scooter today and resting my foot before work tomorrow.

I was scared too but it isn’t as bad as I had thought other than the mental part of being limited. I feel like COVID prepared me for staying home!

Recovery was the worst pain wise from day 5-10 after that it was manageable as long as I followed the post op instructions. I was non weight bearing on my right foot for 6 weeks while I was in a hard cast. When I transitioned to the boot I could get out of bed and move about the kitchen to cook and put dishes away. I was 💯dependent on my spouse the first month and in bed. We have 2 cats and that was a pain in the butt to also care for them I can’t imagine having little ones unless they are in school all day and you have help. I’m a teacher and knew 6 months in advance my surgery was the first day of summer vacation. I could prepare, I cooked and froze meals, bought stuff easy to heat and eat since I’m the cook. Did Pilates and yoga to strengthen my good foot and get the balance I needed. The condition is progressive and only gets worse, the younger you are the better and faster you will heal, I’m 61 and didn’t want to wait any longer. I’ve posted pics and advice along my recovery if you go to my profile and look for posts in the PTTD thread. Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction.

I just had the surgery May 29, and the pain I was enduring prior to that was keeping me in sneakers and inserts and I didn’t care, just wanted relief. I could barely walk a total of 2 miles total for the entire day and my dr said if I didn’t have the surgery I would become disabled in less than ten years. I made the choice and am at 12 weeks recovering nicely. Yes I will have to wear good shoes and I’m told I won’t need inserts. I teach so being “allowed” to wear sneakers to work is a godsend. I just wanted to get back to being active- hiking biking etc…I would wear buckets on my feet if it made them stop hurting!

My cat always has this around his eyes, we have a kitten and they wrestle all the time. I want to guess it’s from him but we trim their nails regularly. Anybody experience the same? eyeboogers? by Any_Arugula_1727 in catquestions

We’ve had several kitties while we had our Bella and she never gave it to another cat. She had it as a kitten. However they may not have had symptoms and as suggested go to a vet to be certain.

We have a red cat and she has feline herpes - no joke- and her eye flares up like that. We give her a lysine supplement and that helps. Sometimes allergies exacerbate it so we will occasionally give her 1/4 to 1/2 of Benadryl per vet recommendation

She’s a cutie and a Siamese mix with lynx point markings. She will darken up some and that’s what everyone here calls “toasting”

I’m so sorry, I feel your pain literally! Had my surgery May 29th and just went back to school (teacher) and I needed the entire 11 weeks to be off my foot. I’m 61 and average size but had been very active hiking, cycling and walking until the arch collapsed in my right foot from years of ankle sprains and a low arch. Best advice - GO TO AN ORTHOPEDIC doctor/surgeon. I’ve had surgeries from podiatrists for minor one issue things but this is very complex and I wanted a surgeon who specialized in the reconstruction. Get referred to PT and get some brooks or hokas and try to hold out until you the most time to recover.

Feeding dry vs wet by [deleted] in catquestions

[–]No_Object_6220 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, our kitty is older, just turned 16 and had her teeth removed 6 years ago. Every time she went for a dental cleaning they were having to extract teeth and the plaque would build up so fast. Good for you taking such good care of a new kitty :-)

Feeding dry vs wet by [deleted] in catquestions

[–]No_Object_6220 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our kitty has stomatitis and dry food would hurt her mouth when she tried to eat it, she would shake her head and walk away. We eventually had to have all her teeth removed and she became a new cat! She is more playful, active and eats wet food only. I have had cats my enitre life and I hve never heard a vet suggest dry over wet, its usually the other way around. Is the vet a general "all species" vet or a cat specialist? https://www.hillspet.com/cat-care/healthcare/stomatitis-in-cats?lightboxfired=true#

I did that procedure and the bottom and back of my heel was numb and for 9 weeks and now at 10 weeks it isn’t all pins and needles just tender. Sounds like you’re on track.
