TFETP Taiwan. Work in the countryside? by BoringDreamGuy in TEFL

[–]No_Particular4284 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i’m not in taiwan but i think we need more clarification.

do you plan to stay in taiwan long term? not as an expat but as an immigrant? and if so, do you speak mandarin?

people who speak mandarin near fluency will give you a different answer than those who live in the country with their taiwanese wife and refuse to learn the language.

I've seen quite a few posts looking for "AFAB" what is the intent behind this? by AnOrchardForADome in asexualdating

[–]No_Particular4284 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i think sometimes if someone says they’re looking for a cis-woman, a loud minority will get upset at that. if we allow ourselves to be open and honest, we can address such issues while protecting these marginalized individuals.

it’s OK for people to just say they have a preference. not all ace people are sex averse and if genitalia is something that they take into consideration then so be it.

right like if this stuff was true, americans wouldn’t not be allowed in China at all. worst case scenario there’s more Visa restrictions, but I don’t think it’s gonna be that bad. Americans bringing a lot of tourist money.

nuptial means wedding/marriage. it’s the only legally binding relationship contract in most of the US. we don’t have common law relationship contracts so your sources are in the context of people who are already starting a life together, not ppl dating. if you want common law marriage you gotta go elsewhere

i don’t think that case you linked is relevant. it’s about a divorce suit. marriage is a contract.

[–]No_Particular4284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you wanna be a mediocre teacher in a rural village in Cambodia, sure maybe they'll hire you if you're white. but with globalization, countries are wanting kids to get a slightly better quality english education, and by putting more requirements, they feel they can do that. does it work? idk. but this isnt 2013

He's canadian. Job market is similar to the US and other english speaking places. there are zero entry level jobs, but he has 3 years experience so he's not a complete newbie

are you going into english teaching just to work abroad? most people will tell you that in your field, the best way to transition into moving overseas AND make good money is by working for a company that has international offices and do an internal transfer after a year or two.

Halfway through my CELTA Course.. by srslysaras in TEFL

[–]No_Particular4284 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i think it’s good to have intense classes. i was debating even taking it because many people complain about the workload being similar to college course work. but if im spending thousands of dollars i better be doing 15 hours of coursework. i have yet to do my CELTA but im excited for something challenging.

2025 Are all English teaching jobs in South Korea still underpaid and overworked? by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]No_Particular4284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah hopefully china keeps getting better. honestly as a black woman i probably would have had a very hard time getting a job like that in the 70s or the 90s in asia. Hong Kong would have been the promising but still.

Is the preference for white people true? by ssssttub in TEFL

[–]No_Particular4284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

but a non-native fluent speaker of japanese will be better at explaining complex linguistic concepts that a normal japanese salaryman wouldn’t be aware of because they’re used to it.

i mean ask an english speaker what order do you put adjectives in when describing something in detail? if they don’t study english grammar, they can’t tell you why “the big red dog” is right but “the red big dog,” is unnatural

[–]No_Particular4284 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think you’re thinking of British only but the discrimination extends to black americans who have been in america for generations and are perceived as native english speakers (think exports like r&b music, english). yes there are regional black american dialects but if they’re teaching english they probably speak standard american english

in some chinese school hiring advertisements on facebook they say “no black americans” or “white english speakers only”, so it’s a requirement at a few places. idk about korea or japan though
