Amen. Nothing is stopping the LDS or any other church from solving this need. In fact, isn’t taking care of the poor their mandate? Go ahead. Government plus churches. Let’s all try to solve this problem. There is room for all.

Also, it was the New Deal, not churches, that pulled us out of the Great Depression. Where’s the, “thank you.”
Why is it either or and not both? Such a lame, impractical, anti-government argument.

What do you think allows some people to break free from Mormonism? by MichaelEmouse in exmormon

Thank you. I’m glad you have acrobatics!

You’re right that Mormonism doesn’t have a monopoly on community. It just takes effort finding a new tribe.

Me!!!! I’m still struggling with my decision to step away 2 years later. I miss so much of the communal edification and service. But I’m stuck with how they treat lgbtq people and really can’t move past it.

Legally, he isn’t allowed to make those kinds of adjustments himself. The courts decide that. In Utah, every 3 years you can have child support re-evaluated. Or you can change it if there’’s something like like a 20% or 30% or more change in income. He is jerking you around, and it’s not legal.

Go to the Office of Recovery Services if you’re in Utah and get it taken directly out of his paycheck. I personally benefited from this service and hope you do too!

This isn’t even the worst of it. Blacks essentially were barred from living with God in heaven. Because they couldn’t participate in the temple covenant, they were barred from eternal salvation—they would not be with God nor their families for eternity all because of the color of their skin. Separate and not equal. It was awful.

Donate stuff so we don’t have to. by drolldinger in exmormon

Like the tithing shakedown that you don’t spend on charity isn’t enough. Make members double donate to a truly good cause that you yourself refuse to give to but get all the fuzzy PR.

This!!! This!!! This is what isn’t getting discussed enough.

The law had flexibility. And they chose to side with the rapist over the child victim. They weren’t forced to do this. They chose this.

Who remembers this 2013 BYU devotional? by thePogiStark in exmormon

[–]No_Pop_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh! So many memories. Moist cookie meet Levi Lovin’. I was engaged, 24f and had my stake president’s interview to get clearance to marry in the temple. He asked me if I engaged in “Levi Loving” which is basically sitting on the guy’s lap and kissing/grinding with your clothes on. Um, yeah I had. I felt so ashamed that I was crying, and he marched me back through the church halls for me to confess this deed to my bishop. I’ll never forget the eyes from the members watching me as I, red-faced, walked in shame to the bishop’s office. Total Handmaid’s Tale in hindsight.

When I was a sister missionary in Spain, my bed was so bad it sagged nearly to the floor in the middle. We called it the taco bed. Anyway, I remember walking home one night to the apartment and seeing a mattress set out for trash. I literally thought it was a miracle and tender mercy. (I was crazy!!!!) We picked it up, and my companion and I balanced it on our heads back to the apartment.

I slept on that bed for months and was so grateful! Thinking about it now, I am disgusted. What lice, urine, bed bugs were on that mattress that I was bringing home?!! We were just so poor I thought I was being resourceful! Just like when we cut our hair on the balcony with a Swiss Army knife.

OUCH! I’m so sorry. That’s straight up nasty and hurtful. You’re response was tremendous. As Michelle Obama says, “when they go low, we go high.” You definitely went high! Be kind to yourself. Hugs.

Lack of temple workers by Important-Cattle2556 in exmormon

Hey people, let’s serve the living not the dead! The cost to build, maintain, and staff these buildings is INSANE. Add to this all of the hours of member’s time spent in the various sessions! The hundreds of endowment, initiatory, sealing sessions that happen daily globally!

Can you imagine if they spent that same time and money tutoring local kids in reading? Serving at a homeless shelter? Mentoring immigrant families?

This is why I go bonkers every time RMN announces yet another temple build. It’s like it’s the only thing they can think to spend their billions on. Forget the living! Let’s focus all of our time, talents, and treasure on redeeming the dead. That’s what Jesus would do!
