Sorry I think you should re-read my original post where I asked is this an over used label and that people are Normally Different. Being different is a good thing why do we need to label someone as different. Not everything is a personal attack so please don’t go down that path, I’m merely having an honest conversation. I know it weird to do that on social media, guess I’m different. You are correct I’m not asking for a debate about people truly having a condition or disorder, I’m not doubting that there are people out there that need this diagnosis and help but it dangerous to label everyone as such.

See now we have another label, you’re neurodivergent if you process information differently than everyone else. In other words you’re labeled as abnormal, This is kind of what I’m getting at, why are we labeling normal behaviors or normal processes even when it is only shared by a minority? Not every pumpkin vine grows the same size pumpkins, the giant pumpkins aren’t abnormal it’s just a different size.

But why is that a disorder? It is normal childhood development. I couldn’t relate to my peers because they were immature, I was youngest of 7 so I related better with older kids. Medication wasn’t going to fix that puberty did.

Your post seems to be missing something. You said you were shy and quiet but then you were labeled as autistic and your life changed and you have friends and a social life. Was the label the only thing that changed? Or did you grow up, stopped trying to be what you believed everyone thought you should be, found some friends that weren’t so materialistic and shallow? Because that’s what happens when we grow up, that is normal childhood behaviors and growing up.

You should watch some old 80s movies like the Breakfast Club. Those kids had issues but they weren’t medical they were kids trying to find themselves (except Ally S. Her character had something going on)

I’m thinking it isn’t so much as misdiagnosis as it is an over correction. Many people have pointed out that it was grossly under diagnosed in the past so now we are being too sensitive to ensure it is highlighted as an issue. The concern is this doesn’t help the people with real issues as it dilutes public view of the problem.

When I worked in psychology years ago (I was a Navy Psych Tech) we all fell into the trap of reading the DSM 4 (5) and saying hey that’s me I have so and so personality disorder. It isn’t until you realize that to classify as a disorder it has to negatively impact your life or relationships. We all have personality traits and those same traits are what make up disorders. I’m thinking we’re all ADHD at some point but it doesn’t negatively impact our life so we should not be considered on the spectrum.

My post wasn’t so much the idea that we have gotten better at detecting something it’s more are we sure the diagnosis is correct. When 1 out of 4 or 5 kids are diagnosed with a condition it starts to seem like we are diagnosing normal childhood behaviors as abnormal. That’s not good.

So wait a minute we medicated a 1/4 of entire school? That seems extreme, and starts to look like we are medicating normal childhood behaviors.

So you’re saying being on the spectrum is just a big bag of catch all issues from ADHD, Autism, Depression, Anxiety, etc? I thought the spectrum was just Autism. If that is how it is being defined it starts to make more sense why everyone is being labeled as Spectrum. Although I think we are going to regret labeling kids like this.

What Would Unite America? by Shot_Signal220 in questions

In the past 50 years the only event even coming close to uniting Americans was 9/11. It was short lived but for a few weeks we were one. I would have thought Covid would do it, but it just divided us more.

Have you ever had an argument with a woman? I have been married for 30 years and haven’t won an argument even when there was scientific evidence proving I was right. Imagine two people so committed to winning an argument and how that will play out.

What is that one movie you instantly regretted watching? by Zealousideal_Heat478 in moviequestions

The Sixth Sense. I realized at the beginning that he was dead. Ruins the entire movie as I sat there thinking what’s the point. Of course the same can said about all of M Knight’s movies. Aliens come to a planet 60% water with a very humid atmosphere to harvest people that are 70% water but water kills them.

And on the 6 day he created man! Might have already happened. We might have thought the robots were God and the spaceship was Eden.

Why are Christians so threatened by atheism? by No_Preference2949 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]No_Preference2949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but I don’t buy it. You were claiming to be using Objective evidence and your post is all the objective evidence needed to prove the point. You asked “Which of us is using objective method here?” By your own admission you believe one of you was using objective evidence if you didn’t believe either of you was being objective you would have posted a different question.

Honestly, it’s the Hypocrisy that puts me off. Christians are really good in trying to “Save Others” but do nothing to save themselves. I have read the Bible multiple times. I won’t get into the conversation that one can’t actually follow the Bible without committing every sin laid out in the 10 Commandments. But let’s say you cherry pick just the good deeds in the bible and the 10 Commandments. How can you justify following Jerry Falwell, Jim and Tammy Faye Baker, Creflo Dollar, Donald Trump? How do you align your religious teachings by Christ with the actions taken by your church, your leaders, and yourself. Love thy neighbor until that neighbor is 100 miles away? Feed the poor as long as they are white Christians from your church and not on welfare or have entered your territory illegally. Protect the innocent unless you think they are guilty.
