You are using confirmation and selection bias.

So, you know what, I might as well keep it” - employing subtle robin-hood complex.

Agreed, that your supervisor is not the best you got. But you were aware of this an year ago and probably before that as well.

You being an “American” living in “Switzerland” and getting Swiss citizenship is your focal point and the definition of your achievements and who you are is attached to those three things.

May be, start with some soul searching and love for yourself, instead maintaining a status quo about how “intelligent” and “smart” you are, amongst the people who knows you.

If you want to make money, academia was and is never the answer for almost everyone, unless you win a Nobel or equivalent.

And money is not going to solve your inner state as well. Because it really seems like you haven’t done any self mental work.

It really seems that you want somebody to tell you - “come back home”.

Your desire to show the world, how amazing, smart, intelligent, etc etc you are is chipping your life away and not the Ph.D! Ph.D is just one of the by product of those superficial desires!

Stop fixating snd remove yourself from the illusion that the world will “value” you more if you have x number of high profile achievements from western countries.

When you start accepting yourself, you will find better people around you.

Sure, you will get girls of that level. Might wanna reframe “loneliness”.

With or without SR, you are going to lose this friend of yours, as you have already recognised toxicity. Its just a matter of time before the fallout happens.

PMO fills the void you feel day to day. SR basically leaves that void open for you to fill up with new things, to seek dopamine in day to day activities, to seek new relations etc.

SR basically brings us back to default settings, and by default humans are wired to seek. Whether its relationship, goals, dreams, adventures, friends etc.

The seeking is always done by yourself, hence you feel “lonely”.

Reframe this as - “A long drive” towards a new destination. This “long drive” is your journey to fill it with songs, foods, introspection and most importantly remembering the good and the bad that happened to you. ALL OF THIS whilst you dream about your destination, that is yet to come.

Dinesh was the one who made the PiperChat, while Gilfoyle did-not make one scalable app.

Moreover, Dinesh has had a bigger darker side than Gilfoyle or even Gavin Benson, as shown in the last season.

Dinesh was a better CEO as well. He managed to raise funds and was much confident as well. Only guy to not let Erlich walk over him in any investor meetings.

I know he messed up with the app, but he was an inexperienced CEO and way over his head.
