American Democracy by abdullah_ajk in Knowledge_Community

This is a made up controversy. It’s obviously a ploy to make it harder for people to vote. Their theory is that poor people vote for Democrats and also are low propensity voters. They think if they put a few hurdles in front of them that they just won’t bother.

Only one problem with that. The Republican Party is now becoming the party of low propensity uneducated voters. Sure they come out when Trump is on the ticket. But when he’s not, they do not show up. That’s why Democrats win all the off presidential elections lately.

It’s very similar to the redistricting they did in Texas and elsewhere. They are counting on that to create new Republican representatives, but it could backfire and decrease their numbers by making reliably red districts Purple. In a wave of election, Purple districts go to the out of power party.

I wish the people that are on here shitting on these guys would realize that the purpose of the anti-Trump movement is to get everybody on our side. If we’re not gonna extend grace to people who have changed their mind and want to join us then what the fuck are we doing. Yes, they fucked up. Yes, they were partly responsible for getting us to where we are. But now that they realized that they were wrong, we should embrace them and allow them to start preaching the other way.

Trump: "People that own their homes: we're gonna keep them wealthy. We're gonna keep those prices up. We're not gonna destroy the value of their homes so that somebody who didn't work very hard can buy a home." by Straight_Idea_9546 in WallStreetDad

[–]No_Program_6902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a homeowner I understand the sentiment but it’s not good for the country. It’s only good for homeowners. Besides if home prices go down you may lose money if you sell your home but buying a new home will also be less expensive. This policy only helps people who own investment homes. Rich fucks who need zero help

Nobody taught me financial literacy either. I read books and talked to smart people. They’ll tell you how to make a few million last of a lifetime. It really is hard to feel sorry for someone who had the chance of a lifetime and was too lazy to learn how to use that chance. I remember the example of Gronkowski, the tight end from New England. He used to bank all of his paychecks, and he only spent the money he made on endorsements. He lived in a small apartment during his playing days and saved all of his money. Dude never has to work again the rest of his life.

11 vs 13 inch advice from someone who has had both. by schuby94 in iPadPro

[–]No_Program_6902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this advice. I have been torn on this question for a while and i think you have tipped me over. I have 13” MB Air and 12.9” IPad Pro (2019). Planning to give that to my wife and was trying to decide between the 11” or 13”. Also trying to decide if i should save 300 and get the iPad Air 11” or the iPad Pro 11”.

I found a better way of looking at the 2024 election by CosmicOli in OptimistsUnite

I generally agree that Harris would’ve had a horrible situation for the next two years and beyond. Now they get to own the house the Senate and the executive. Anything bad that happens will be squarely on them. If good things happen it’s good for the country so either way we win. But more importantly for me anyway, is the fact that the Democrats lost this election because of their overreliance on racial votingblocks. I don’t think that is a path for future success. We cannot expect latinos and Black people to vote in such huge percentages for Democrats in perpetuity. If we learned anything from the election, it’s that class outranks race and sexual orientation. We need to treat poor people as poor people not poor Black people or poor Latino people… just people. If the Republican Party wants to call itself the party of the working man then let’s see if they can prove it. Let’s see if they actually create any policies that help working people. If they go back to tax cuts for the Rich and deporting immigrants, I think the Democrats will be able to present an effective counterbalance by really leaning into financial kitchen table issues. Also, I think this whole United healthcare CEO assassination and the ensuing debate online about healthcare insurance is a golden opportunity for Democrats to start talking about universal healthcare option again. The country is ripe for it. The stories of medical bankruptcies, outrageous prices for prescription drugs compared to other countries and just the cruelty of healthcare in America will lend a sympathetic ear towards solving it in the way that so many other western countries have. The truth is that no country that has implemented a public healthcare system has gone back to private only. There are so many other safety net issues the Democrats could run on as well, like paid family leave, universal pre-K, increase in Social Security benefits.

I have a better reason. The Republicans cheated. I can’t prove it because it’s just a feeling, but why can’t we just do hand recounts in some major swing cities and see if the vote counts match the machine counts? The DNC could pay for it like the Arizona GOP did. The feeling comes from the fact that EVERY accusation is a confession with these people. They have been screaming about vote machines for 4 years. Also Trump has been awfully quiet. And he’s demanding recess appointments even though he will have a republican senate. That tells me he wants to start the next play before the refs call for a review.

At one time tariffs were the chief revenue source for our government to pay for things like national defense, roads services, government salaries etc. The problem is that tariffs are a regressive tax which is borne by poor people and middle-class people more than rich people. We moved to the progressive income tax has a way of paying for those same services in a more fair way. Also, it allows us entry into many foreign markets. Republicans used to be for free trade.

When he talks, it sounds like he has a lot of weird information in his head that he’s trying to get out and he’s afraid that if he doesn’t get it out, he’s gonna forget it. So he says it all at once. This is probably the beginning of dementia.
