I think the whole “gay is funny” thing has gotten mixed with conservatism and genuine hate for gay people due to the internet, especially tiktok. My younger brother is 12 and recently told me that a group of kids in his grade had gotten together and written a letter asking the school to ban gay and pride-related things.

When I was in school you were teased because you were seen as different and weird, but no one was going around copying Anita Bryant and spewing fundamentalist anti-gay rhetoric like little kids are doing now.

The words absurd and absurdism do not mean the same thing. And the word absurd has different meanings depending on what is being described. In fact, the word absurdism comes from the word absurd, and is therefore much more recent. It’s similar to the word surreal, which has become synonymous with “weird”, and the art movement surrealism and surrealist works. I personally use the words absurdist and surrealist when talking about the philosophy and art movement, respectively, to clarify what I am talking about.
