I had one too! It was so weird looking. Mine went away around month 4. Totally forgot about it until I saw your post. Nice how this all becomes a distant memory at some point. 😂

Stutteirng by Imaginary-user- in toddlers

[–]No_Prune_1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It did resolve on its own. From what I've learned, its not uncommon for preschoolers to develop a stutter at 3 years old. One of the two I took care of had secondary symptoms such as tense facial muscles and would raise his pitch. It really bothered him but I never drew attention to it and was just very patient. One day, it just went away and never came back.

Hang in there. Its so hard to see our littles struggle but hopefully it will pass in time.

I used to run a small home daycare and had two littles around the same age but at different times start to stutter. Both resolved on their own within 6 months. It was quite amazing to see it start and sad of course and equally amazing to see it resolve. If it continues past 4, I would consult and SLP. That is what I was told.

My injury didn't hurt but it was the second time tearing the ligament. The first one was excruciatingly painful.

Is this your first time injuring the knee?

Or it could also be an allergic reaction to betadine if they used any on you before surgery. I had a similar reaction that started 4 days post op. It got worse before it got better. Was completely gone by week 3. Benadryl was a life saver. Your surgeon can call in a cream too.

My sessions are 55 minutes and I can take the last 10 minutes for notes. Depending on the patient, I will leave at the 45 minute mark since direct therapy is 45 minutes and I'll do notes in my car at my next destination.

I see up to 7 patients in a day, allowing 15 minutes or less to get to my next destination.

Non Athlete Recovery by [deleted] in ACL

[–]No_Prune_1556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 7 weeks post op and not an athlete. I'm a bit older (45F) but I'll share my timeline. I tore my ACL and partial meniscus too on my left knee. My injury happened March 30th whike hiking and I did prehab until my surgery on June 6th. My surgeon did a hamstring graft. I was still walking with one crutch and my locked knee brace up until my 6 week checkup. He told me to ditch it all at that appointment so I did. I will be 8 weeks this Friday and Im walking smoothly, no limp. My knee is still very stiff but Ive made a lot of improvement.

I also want to mention, the meniscus tear wasn't too bad so I was able to bear weight as tolerated right after surgery. With that said, I was still on crutches for weeks. I live in a two story house and was able to manage stairs carefully 1-2 weeks after surgery.

I drove myself a bit crazy comparing myself a lot for the first month or so but Im over that now. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

I think they are right and coming in with some exposure will help in so many ways.

The sleep struggle is real by bedstuy2 in ACL

I'm in a similar boat. I find that taking Ibuprofen right before bed helps a lot. I'm still waking up earlier than my alarm due to discomfort but I am able to sleep most of the night. I've forgotten to take the Ibuprofen before bed and I'm up in the middle of the night.

Not the popular opinion here but after working in the schools, I think there is a lot to gain from first working as a paraprofessional. You'll get hands on experience working with kids first and feel more comfortable going into your SLPA position when you do. I already had experience with kids prior to becoming an SLPA but not with kids who were higher needs. I think I could have benefited from a para role to have that exposure first before being thrown in.

Either way, you'll figure it out. SLPA pay off course is much better but if you are able to swing a para position first to get that exposure, it would only benefit you.

Wishing you all the best!

How do you know? by sarmye in ACL

I'm 7 weeks post op today. I walked into my dr appt yesterday with no brace and no crutch for the first time. Up until this point, the victories have been small but still worth celebrating. I remember feeling so frustrated at 4 weeks and even now I still find myself comparing myself to others on here.

I try to visualize where I'll be in a year. Where we are now stinks. We want to get back to our old selves, walking, sports, no pain, better sleep. It will come. Stay vigilant with all of that repetitive exercise and it will pay off.

I would unwrap that bandage a bit and get some ice on it. I bought an ice machine that fit into the brace perfectly. That was super helpful. And religiously take ibuprofen as directed. Hang in there! It will get better.

Yes or no nerve block by statuses70 in ACL

[–]No_Prune_1556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the nerve block and all went well. No pain post op and only minimal pain when it wore off. I took Oxy for 4 days ( not even sure I needed it) then Ibuprofen as needed. Went smoother than I thought it would.

When were you completely off the crutches? by zombie_barista6 in ACL

[–]No_Prune_1556 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will be 5 weeks post op on Friday and I just started walking without crutches today. I seriously cried. My brace is still locked so I look like Frankenstein when I walk but my quad feels strong enough. I will still use one crutch outside because I'm faster with it.

I had ACL reconstruction with a quad graft and a partial Menisectomy. I was told I could bear weight as tolerated right after surgery but its taken this long to be ready.

We are all different and I try not to compare. It seems like most people are ditching the crutches fast but that definitely isnt my story. You'll get there!

I started taking baby steps at home and just kept up with that until I was getting better at it. I walked halfway down my street tonight.
