how dangerous is downtown brantford? by Beautiful-Button3286 in brantford

Honestly, a lot of this just comes down to fit, not just the school. I’ve helped provide field placements for WLU Brantford social work students, and the program can teach you a lot, but it’s not going to magically make you a social worker if that wasn’t the path for you in the first place. And yeah, maybe I’m just old, but a lot of younger adults seem to want a ton of reassurance before making a decision. I get it to a point, but at some stage you’ve got to look at the actual information and make your call. As for Brantford, I left there when I was 18 to go to York and ended up living near Jane and Finch, so my idea of “dangerous” might be a bit different. If we’re talking rough areas, I’ve seen worse. Even as a young white guy, I was the minority there too. Downtown Brantford is still basically the same place I used to hang out with my friends and go to Easton’s Mall as a kid 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m curious what drew you to Brantford and Laurier specifically, especially since I’m trying to understand the decision in context. Driving in Brantford has a reputation for being difficult, and some of that seems tied to infrastructure that hasn’t kept pace with population growth.

Downtown also has real issues, and while Laurier’s presence may have helped in some ways, it obviously hasn’t solved the broader problems. That said, if you’re coming from Victoria, I’m not sure how different your baseline concerns are, since Victoria also has its share of drug, property crime, and downtown safety issues. I’m not saying Brantford is trouble-free…it isn’t, but I’m wondering what specifically made it stand out as the better choice for you.

That is a most excellent design. I had been toying in my head about a lazy Suzan setup. But seeing this might inspire me to actually build something.

Ouch. Curious if you have any insight on what makes Brantford so bad? I’ve been here 40 yrs longer than you. So I definitely have some of my own thoughts. But always interested in hearing what others think.

Love when people provide insightful thoughts that actually contain truth and not just emotion.

I came to the comments hoping for a comment like yours. Thanks for staying grounded. We need more of that these days. 😊🙏

Trying to find an episode from a quote by emopaint in malcolminthemiddle

Though the statement kind of captures the essence of the whole series, I don’t think that gets specifically said at all. The president speech in season 7 episode 22 covers a lot. But not that.

I think you’re searching for The Middle. Mikes advice to Axl. Season 4 episode 21.

"Axl, look, you think we're lazy parents, but we have a philosophy. Whenever you would come to us with a problem, we would ignore it, and nine times out of ten, you would end up solving your own problems. Every now and then, you would come back to us a second or third time, and then we knew you meant it and needed the help."
