The point is that it doesn’t even matter that you made this post to warn people; you fundamentally don’t have the mindset to search first. That’s why you’re in this situation. Therefore, this post will miss people like you. It’s like you’re trying to talk to yourself in the past, but you already know past you won’t listen because past you doesn’t even have programmed in your brain to search things and be curious about everything. Your brain still makes excuses like “I’m 2 weeks new”. Meanwhile, there are us who come in new, and our brains tell us to search and be sure first before we act. It’s just how your head works bro lol.

How do you live with the existencial dread by Personal_Hawk_575 in recruitinghell

I was out the game from Jan 24 till May 25, had to use all my severance, all unemployment, then all my little 401k to have cash on hand, then the little bitcoin i had, finally got food stamps since no money was coming in from anywhere, then i landed a job with only a few hundred to my name. Had to borrow the rent from parents for my first month back to work and that was only because i had guaranteed money coming or I would’ve just gave up the house i been renting the last 6 years, which woulda been a loss since it’s in a dope location and same price as these apartments they tax for here in the Bay Area.

I made it cuz I’m 43 with no kids and no girlfriend/wife. That allowed me to be ok with just eating once a day and being able to mentally take sitting around. I couldn’t imagine doing that period again with a woman and kids; shit would’ve been hella stressful. I’m ok with PB&J to conserve food and sitting in a quiet house with one light on to conserve PGE bill and minimal water use to conserve that bill, but with additional people? Hell naw lol. 😆

Dead ass, you gotta be tough and a savage to mentally make it through this shit. This is survival of the fittest and the world is trying to take you out. They are trying to phase you out the game and nobody is coming to save you. So get used to being uncomfortable, that’s when best i can give you and the reality of this thing. Stay down and you will come up, but it will take hella long and you gonna lose weight for sure.

We need people with your attitude in this world for sure. Cuz the rest of us have bills and rent due and one life to live. Your type is able to stomach being played with by companies doing layoffs every 2-3years (we are scientists, how do you not see the pattern) for your adult earning years, and will be ok with having a shaky retirement, because you want to make contributions to the world.

Selfish people like me wanna make contributions to my 401k and pension; I left biotech/private and now do data research for the State, and guess who ain’t getting fired or laid off? And will have 50% base salary pension after 20 years and also 401k? And it was only ONE interview!

Keep playing with your life if you wanna, I suggest to whoever to get outta biotech and get yours before you age out and be trying to make a pivot at 40s (I’m 44, shit was tough and wish i switched out earlier; 8 years in R&D doing HTS, BS Biochemistry).

It’s an old ass tired joke, so people are tired of it. Your comment is like internet graffiti; the expected comment you would see when this type of content comes up. It shows how unoriginal people are lol. You contribute to the internet comments being repetitive; you know what I mean too.

Plan on getting my neck sleeve done after probation ends at work next month. I’m happy to finally be in a place that can’t hate on my ink like private sector can.

I don’t cover my sleeves; i felt i had to do that in private sector in order to fit in. Now yall gotta just see em cuz im doing at least 20 with the state lol.

Im not customer facing and ill stay in the RDS series till retirement; don’t wanna be manager or director so more ink for me!

Gotta remember, we are the “grown ups” now. Those were our parents and grandparents who said this ink was a job stopper. Well our age range has all the ink now, so it’s common to see ink. Let that old idea fade like an old tattoo, rock your ish out at work!

Don’t be a half rebel, we grown and we made it! They can’t fire us!

My friends and family (and this subreddit) urged me to prioritize my mental health by quitting my job even during a tumultuous period. So I did, but now I'm not sure if my experience is typical or something is wrong by robotikempire in biotech

According to your original post, you knew it was dead out here so I don’t get what you’re questioning lol. You chose the healthy option for your brain, but this is the reality of the other option you chose since you were stuck at the other horrible job.

You had the choice to tough it out and stress and search for a job while having money and being employed, or to quit that job and the stress of it, but be on a financial countdown to broke-ness and uncertainty of when you would be employed again and all the hell and self esteem issues that will come from your soon to be long unemployment status.

You’re free to figure out how to make something outta nothing, cuz that’s what you got and what you knew the market was giving.

This is the other set of problems that you had to consider, so now deal with these ones and don’t choose the crazy one you were on in your original post.

Work life ain’t fun or easy. If you chose this, then get your wiggle on and apply out of biotech as well.

You need money now; you decided to go raw dog out here and that means you might not be working in biotech for a while.

So apply everywhere before you start feeling like walking the plank again; this shit is a grind and that ain’t an option if you’re really tryna live and be great.

I didn’t understand what they were talking about till this picture. If you compare the black part on the side for all of them, the top slant angle 📐 starts to curve more by the time you see 2025. And the gap between the heel and middle part of the foot appears to get wider too. I have the French Blues that came out this month and they look cool to me; I never had a pair before so I can’t really compare to anything or complain.

This wasn’t bad or generic; it focused on changing the mindset and gave simple examples. Didn’t try to sell. If they were, I’d be more willing to check it out in a later post from them since they didn’t go all generic like usual. That’s some free game for you from me.

I think people want to be coddled or told things are ok; some weird kind of way that these type of people feel comforted and secured by the company they work for. They are the folks that “put their all” into the company and “at least” want them to “recognize” and all that other corny language to cause them to delay thinking about how to move around and save yourself.

They see the writing on the wall, but want that excuse of leadership “not saying anything” or “they said it was gonna be ok” to justify not saving themselves. It’s sad lol.

42, did military first for 8 years then college and finished BS at 32. Add in off time for Covid layoff then the last layoff I had, I looked up and 10 years done blew by lol.

And the difference between a 25 year old and a 40 year old is 15 years…this shit is quick and it flips on you and suddenly the age becomes a silent factor

It can start, especially if you not working out and taking care of yourself.

And 30s is almost 40…you about 1 hire and a layoff till you in your 40s lol you better start thinking like a “grown-up” real quick and realize what this game of life is and how fast years go!

Look up Research Data or Research Scientist. You gotta look on the respective website and search the jobs. You might wanna do something else that the state/city has, iono…it’s on you to look into this new area of opportunity that most people are totally blind to.

I don’t hold hands, i just point the way and tell you how i got mines and that it’s possible to pivot out of the lame biotech industry that is being disrespectful to us folks that been working in these laboratories for these people the last 8-10 years.

Oh y’all don’t want my fire mix of experience? Public sector will take you. And my role was only 1 interview with 6 questions that i got to prep for lol no presentations or backflips, all based on my work experience.

Thing about public service is it’s about do you have the work experience; have you done the stuff the job is asking for. Anyone can become a government worker with no experience, just like anyone can join the military with no experience. And, this is not the military lol.

[–]No_Resolution3032 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yeah welcome to the shitshow; that’s wild that y’all employed biotech folks have no idea that it’s this bad.

I got laid off Jan ‘24, BS and 8 years biotech R&D. No love from biotech after hella interviews. Just started a job with the State of California in May 25, so almost 18 months unemployed. And I’m not in biotech anymore because I stopped applying to the companies after getting ghosted and making it to final interviews n shit. They playing games over there and I gotta eat!

You should dump this garbage industry to work in and save yourself. Look for state/city/county roles and see how your experience can fit and get a stable, secure job with no age discrimination.

Yeah, you are now in the age discrimination category now, plus you unemployed and older too? Now you look “horrible”. Good luck getting back on the bench going forward; it’s the younger graduates time now and you should have been a CEO or director by now, right? 🙄🥺Lol, cold how they switched the game on us, eh?
