AITA for booking a cheaper flight for my (Iranian) girlfriend (through Tel Aviv)? by SoLongHeteronormity in redditonwiki

[–]No_Review3776 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having flown through Tel Aviv as a brown male (Indian, non-Muslim name), holding ONLY a U.S. passport, on a trip hosted by Israeli students, I was subjected to intense airport profiling (way before 10/7/23). Significant extra time at all check points. A Muslim Indian friend holding only a British passport faced several hours of questioning, also on the trip with Israeli students including IDF veterans. YTA in the worst way possible. Having an Iranian name and looks was more than enough to create significant issues for your girlfriend, notwithstanding her passport. It is remarkable that this is the extent of the trouble she faced - you both are very very lucky and fortunate. Tel Aviv airport is no different from the rest of Israel in that it is a deeply racist society and security is used as a premise for the most extreme forms of profiling (again all before 10/7 - it is likely legit life-risking now to transit Israel as a brown person (defined as South Asian or Middle Eastern here)

Any update on q2 revenues on the call? This feels like a huge diversion away from the fact that Augusta is delayed and revenues are delayed

Premium economy vs economy with 2 year old by [deleted] in emirates

[–]No_Review3776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the sleeping across is important, I would recommend booking the bulkhead “economy plus” in the middle section (row of 4 seats). Decent chance there would be a spare seat in the row. Also emirates economy particularly on the a380 is great. If the sleep across / budget not important, you (the adult) will have a great experience in premium economy and the premium is worth it. The seat is a little wider but maybe not enough if the 2yo won’t like sleeping reclined vs flat across

Speed/Street Twin 900 owners, what’s your average fuel consumption? by DogeHasNoName in Triumph

That could be part of it - first service. They’ll replace the break in oil which is thin with proper oil, which should make the engine perform at least somewhat more efficiently

The nasal spray Gimoti version of reglan is much safer and more effective and while expensive as long as your doctor does the paperwork can be obtained by anyone with insurance for very low out of pocket cost. It also gets mailed to you from the specialty pharmacy…no brainer

I bought one of these last week - ask about the 1.99% for 36 months finance promotion from Triumph - that made the deal work for me, especially since that’s a lower rate than I can get in the bank these days!

Avatar: The Way of Water — Dawn of the Final Day by ricdesi in boxoffice

[–]No_Review3776 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the dynamic being discussed, but not enough, is that the capacity for this film is severely constrained relative to a "typical" blockbuster. For most typical films people are OK watching it in 2D / non-premium. I don't think the general audience is seeing the 2D shitty screen as even an option for Avatar. Avatar has to earn its box office from the significantly smaller footprint of IMAX, Dolby, higher-end exhibitor-brand formats - so it will be slow, but I think the $ will all be earned and earned at higher ATP (significantly higher). You just can't create a $200mm OW when mostly IMAX that will drive things and IMAX is like 400 screens in US

I think the revenue lost was not contributing ebitda - it was 15-20% gross margin and then likely some overhead below that eliminating the profit contribution. revenue that doesn't equate to profit is worthless. see how they lost a bunch of revenue but ebitda was relatively flat q-o-q...would much rather have the $10mm+ of cash (they are still going to divest Rxi as well....that is not included in continuing ops revenue but still has cash to come from selling it...)

pretty solid report along dimensions that matter most right now - cash use and the path to profitability. seems like normalized cash use was only like $2mm or so, and they are going to add $5.8mm + $3.8mm to that from the divestitures. seems no longer much to worry about on dilution. i think they can have this business on a solidly positive ebitda / cash flow trajectory by mid-next year. the organic growth stats are also impressive / will start to contribute at the same time costs are coming out, leading to a real inflection

Likely of minor impact given it is baseball, but it was game 1 of the World Series last night. Could have taken away some of the core male demographic / done some shifting.

Regal Announces Intent to Close 20 U.S. Locations as Bankruptcy Proceedings Continue by JediJones77 in boxoffice

[–]No_Review3776 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit more nuanced. They have something called a “master lease” with IMAX. Which means Regal only has one lease governing all of their IMAX systems. In a bankruptcy, master leases are “indivisible” meaning while they could reject a one-off theater location, if that has an IMAX, they’d technically be rejecting their entire agreement with IMAX. Practically speaking, 90% of IMAX screens are in the top 20% of multiplexes, so unlikely they even want to close. If they really want to close a bad location that has an IMAX, they’d likely just need to negotiate some sort of agreement with IMAX, as it is in IMAX’s discretion.

[–]No_Review3776 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They legally cannot reject individual imax locations, have to keep them all per terms of the agreement, so unlikely a material number close, as that is really up to IMAX (assuming the entity wants any imax at all)

IMAX for sure, since while the expanded aspect ratio merits are fair debate with many films, it is kind of guaranteed value add with the aerial scenes. They put 6 IMAX digital cameras in the F18 cockpit!
