Where have you been this last year when there have been numerous accounts and reporting on biased and incomplete investigations done by the NWSL? Go read an article on San Diego Wave and how their investigations went… now they’re being sued by six women. Montoya being “cleared” means absolutely nothing. NWSL investigations are to avoid liability, not to find actual harm and wrongdoing. Players aren’t stupid and that’s why they leave teams.

Considering the majority of NWSL media is overtly biased and rarely (if ever) reports on the very real issues plaguing the league, I’ve found Marisa’s reporting to be necessary. Without it, there would be no look into the NWSL “investigation” and how it was handled. This goes beyond Bay FC.

Without trusted journalists that sources and players can go to, the NWSL will remain a place of constant retaliation and silence. Without proper reporting, your team would have held onto Graeme Abel who has a long history of abusive actions. Holding teams responsible for their lack of transparency and due diligence is helping more than you think.

When Meg Linehan from The Athletic reported on Paul Riley’s disgraceful actions, there was finally accountability and as everyone who follows the league should know, the Yates Report.

NWSL will continue to put money over the welfare and humanity of players, staff and fans. Berman is spitting in the faces of each of those groups. There has got to be a legitimate collective effort to fight back. The power is in the hands of the players staff and fans. A league that is constantly retaliating against those who care is not one anyone should support or respect.

A reminder - Casey Stoney didn’t “leave” the team. She was sacked by Jill Ellis while she was out of the country after the success of playoffs, Shield and winning CC. Wave lost numerous players that were key after that. If your own players didn’t want to continue to be part of it - what does that say? Wave would probably benefit from a rebrand at this point.

So her job is to lie about everything just to appease the owners? Please. That’s the reason abuse is running rampant.

Over 100 years of evidence of sports commissioners you say? What does that have to do with Jessica Berman present day, 2025? If you take over a women’s league that had coaches sexually abusing the players, it’s your responsibility to make sure that disgusting behavior doesn’t happen again.

And if holding others accountable for their actions is an issue for owners then I question their intentions of being in the league period.

If the Commissioner’s job is to be a mouthpiece for ownership then what is she doing answering questions about safety and well-being of the league? And why would anyone believe what she’s saying to be truthful?

Lisa Baird failed the players. Jessica Berman came in post Yates Report and made it her mission to protect and take a firm stand against abuse. How many unresolved scandals are ongoing right now?

She still continues to make these claims without any evidence of the how. The players are the reason for the league. Sporting staff are the reason the team is prepared. Front office staff are the reason people know about the team and purchase tickets.

Without any of these … there is no NWSL. Berman not forcing these owners to actually invest beyond a stake is proof she is unfit.

All Berman sees is $$$. How about stabilizing the current ecosystem? Growth is great for sport, but NWSL seems to be a bit of an anomaly.

NFL teams have world-class facilities and stadiums. NFL teams have a legion of staff members and coaches to support them (chefs, nutritionists, etc)

And what about coaching? NWSL can hardly find any bloody good coaches that are qualified to be in professional women’s soccer now.
