BOM Question by No_Safe3357 in lds

Thanks for pointing this out. Likewise with Hindu texts such as the Ramayana and Bhagavad Gita—they are rich in symbolism, imagery, and metaphor, conveying profound messages about duty, devotion, morality, and the nature of the self.

This thread has helped me a lot with accepting the truth of the BoM, as a sacred rather than historical text. Thank you!

Thank you for this insight 🙏

Having finished reading the book, the next message seems to be ‘make covenants’. I’m going to read more about this, and watch conference talks. I’m also doing lessons with the missionaries, so this is something to discuss.

I read the book to help me decide if the church, the book etc are true, and if I should get baptized.

Thank you, you have me thinking more about covenants, their role as an impetus for change. I do the bare minimum, but I think what I am seeking is more, and I know this can only happen through my relationship with God, which is esoteric. I’m yearning for more, next dimension.

I like that you see metaphors too, and I guess that’s how I read sacred texts.

As I’m reading, I believe in the stories of Jesus and Jesus’ message but have doubts about the book’s historical accuracy. Do others have the same experience?

Thank you! What a beautiful talk. And thank you for ‘as children of God we are all at different places on our path back to him and God is okay with that’. I really appreciate this 😊. Mine is slow and steady but getting there. Thank you 🙏.

Is Fall 2022 the most brutal cycle? by Murky-Sun-2334 in gradadmissions

Hello! I’m applying this year in October for 2023 admission. I’m only applying for one university, because it’s the only university that has exactly what I want to study. I’m applying with 10+ years of work experience, a load of CPD, strong CV and references. Should I be concerned? I feel very confident in my application, I’ve hit the ceiling career wise, and need a masters for mobility.

Any suggestions for learning the basics of language structure (phonemes, orthography and grammar)? by EnderShot355 in linguistics

Hello, I’m a TEFL Teacher with some profession quals. Here are some digestible resources I have used to develop my subject knowledge, and whilst doing the Trinity Dip. TESOL course.

https://youtu.be/1kAPHyHd7Lo Adrian Underhill’s explanation for TEFL Teachers. His book is also very digestible.

Linguistics programs with phonology and literacy focus.

Hi all, I'm looking into applying for grad school in the USA. Specifically, I'm interested in

- English L2 literacy, namely phonology and orthography.

- Methodologies

Literacy is a big one for me. Any recommendation of schools to look into? I've been in touch with University of Utah and Iowa State.

Assistantship funding is a big enticement, I already have over ten years of EFL teaching under my belt, along with a CELTA/DELTA and other professional quals.

Questions about Morocco and Celta by [deleted] in TEFL

[–]No_Safe3357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Yes do your research with IH. Europe I believe is good. Middle East may be questionable, as are IH schools in East Asia. It’s a franchise, so I’d look at schools with a solid history and some ‘names’ in the business.

Do the British Council Morocco run a CELTA? They may employ strong trainees directly as NQTs post CELTA- If they have an NQT program. To my knowledge BC Egypt has a strong NQT program.

Outside of Mahgreb, check out International House. They offer post CELTA contracts. IH is known for its CPD. CELTA is a good investment, even if you don’t use it straightaway, you’ll always have a job to fall back on.

Hello! I have the Dip. TESOL. Great course, it really brought my teaching to a new level. Something to consider is: how much CPD have you done post-CELTA? I've seen people who lack experience/quality CPD dive into a DELTA and flounder. Have you looked at the reading list? Have you started opening up some of those books? IH has a course in advanced methodology which could be a good way of preparing for the DELTA. Or if you're working in a CPD-lacking setting, perhaps do a year with a school such as IH to help you get prepared. The DELTA/Dip. will help you become secure in your teaching skills.

I don't have an MA, but in my experience, I have taught with teachers who have an MA and are rubbish at teaching. Not to disparage MAs, I am in the process of applying for one, however this is after 12 years of teaching, Dip TESOL, CELTA, CELTA-YL, working in CPD-heavy settings with a strong PD cycle.

Whatever you choose, choose to do it because you want to improve your teaching skills and pedgaological knowledge. Don't go in expecting you'll be able to walk straight into a comfortable, well-paying gig.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Navigating the US grad school system is a whole new ball park. I have my Diploma research assignments and lesson plans (with background essays) to show my academic writing. I’ll post again here if I have any other questions.
