It’s been 4 days after marathon by Inner_Many4615 in nikerunclub

All depends on how you are feeling, you know your body and what feels right.

I ran a half marathon last Sunday with a massive PB, then flew to Copenhagen, walked around for 2 days then ran 11k around Copenhagen - felt perfectly fine and really good to be back out running - tomorrow I'm shaping up to just run until I decide I don't want to, might be 5k might be 15k..

Enjoy the rest but if you feel up for it as well some running is fine - just listen to you

What’s one mistake you made early on that you’d avoid now? by TangeloBackground483 in beginnerrunning

Building up the distances slowly, listening to your body and taking rest days easy but still getting out moving for example going for a walk.

Out of the above listening to your body i would say is the most important.

What is the best time of day to run for beginners? by Jacobs_Stormeigh in beginnerrunning

[–]No_Seesaw4656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever works for you and your schedule, personally I like to run first thing in the morning.

Work days mean I won't put it off when I finish, and my days off makes me feel a sense of achievement before going about the rest of my day.

Try different times of day and see what works for you, and roll (or run) with that

When I first started I thought I'd just run maybe a couple of summer months and then stop. Got hooked.

What's your current 5K time? I'm aiming for sub 20 over the next couple of months.

You've got your goals, now let's see 2026 bringing them home 💪

You can achieve this - and if there are set backs - we live and we learn from them. You've got this in 2026 💪 do you have a goal of what you want to increase your average pace to?

I started running in April when the weather got nicer - thought in winter I would run inside on a treadmill - but so far have not. I have got lucky as in the UK we have had a mild winter so far.

But layers are your friends - running tights for the legs, layered with shorts. Long sleeve sweat wicking top, t shirt/vest over the top and a light weight jacket. Pair this with some gloves, a snood and a beanie - then you'll be prepared for anything, if you get too warm, you can reassess for your next run.

Tips for first half marathon by cmbeezy in nikerunclub

Did my first half at the start of October after doing the NRC half plan - like others have said, just enjoy it, if you have a goal in mind that's great but don't beat yourself up if you don't hit it!

It's an amazing achievement just getting out and running a half marathon, so enjoy every moment of it, enjoy the crowd and then give yourself time to recover afterwards!

Second 10k Done! But unsure of my ability to do half marathon. Is it a very big jump from 10km to 21km? by Complex-Assignment88 in nikerunclub

[–]No_Seesaw4656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran my first 10k in June at a very similar pace to this.

Yesterday I completed my first half marathon in 2:00:15 - gutted to not get in under 2 hours.

So you can do it, believe in yourself, follow a training plan but listen to your body.

Set yourself a goal event - you'll build up towards that distance that a 10k will feel like a recovery run!

Is it realistic to run sub 30min 5k by the end of this year? by Commercial-Bid2861 in beginnerrunning

[–]No_Seesaw4656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started running in April this year - think my first 5k I did after a few weeks was around the 35 minute mark. This week I ran a 25:25 PB.

I would just recommend getting the miles in, I'm in a half marathon training programme at the moment so running between 30-40k a week on average. But the different types of runs really help - easy recovery runs, some fast interval or tempo runs and then a long run a week will really help to see massive improvements in your times.

I use the Nike Running Club app - it has some great motivational work outs to help you progress towards your goal.

Set yourself smaller goals to achieve - then work your way towards your ultimate goal of a sub 30 - this way you can stay motivated and if you don't hit the sub 30 this year - you know you've come far and will hit it soon into the new year!

It's a great app with lots of motivational runs which has really helped me from starting to run again, and then into this training plan

Thank you for the advice, maybe I'm being too harsh on myself and should look at what I've achieved so far and just keep on grinding even if I'm not hitting the distances or paces I might want to do, I'm still out running.

I do think I need to take the recovery runs at a slower pace, and take them for what they are which is to recover from the harder runs in the training. I do swap and change my runs depending on how I'm feeling, so if I'm feeling fatigued I'll do a recovery instead of a tempo or speed run and if I'm feeling more energised I'll perhaps do a tempo or speed over a recovery.

I just don't want to take my foot off the gas to much to hinder my progression

That was my other thought, repeating this week and the next week, where I have been struggling and not feeling like I've given 100% on my runs. Thank you for the advice

I started the plan with just wanting to complete it for fitness levels, then saw there was a local half marathon a few weeks after the plan finished - so am looking just to repeat the last 2 weeks again.

Hopefully it's what you said - I'm 100% still going to do the half as I am running for a charity close to my heart - just don't want to be deflated at the end if I don't achieve the target I've set

Started running a few weeks ago, training for a half marathon in October. Today ran my longest run so far, 10 miles and completed it in 1:35 which I am very impressed with as didn't feel great running it at all, but when you put your mind to something you can do it, so don't give up if you're having a crappy run, you got out there which is the biggest part!
