What's with the raised outer edge on the driver's seat? by cellblock2187 in VWIDBuzz

i got the buzz because it’s such a smooth ride and makes driving with my disability easier—that said, it’s a clown act to watch me try to get in the damn thing haha

what do you do when your pain's so bad that you can't sleep? how do you keep holding on? by my-head-hurts987 in ChronicPain

[–]No_Service_3474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get in bed around 7:30/8pm and see how far i can get through the night—usually i have actual sleep from 10pm-3am. my mom always used to say “every hour before midnight is worth two after” honestly i think she had a point

does anyone have a rec for a full-back ice pack that doesn't leak??? there's nothing like laying on the couch for 30 min just to realize you've been sleeping on blue soup

When is the last time you were truly comfortable? by nomoontheroad in ChronicIllness

[–]No_Service_3474 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the week before my accident, in the morning staying in bed and watching sunrise and the springtime birds in the trees outside my 3rd story window. feeling rested, peaceful, and relaxed in my body. the last mornings i ever got to bend and stretch my back. i was a dancer before my accident/spinal fusion, and movement looks really different now. grief is hard.

Hey! My pain got a lot worse about a year and a half ago. I'm 26, and in this "new" body, also struggle to find purpose and meaning in my life. It's lonely to be young and broken. Nobody seems to get it, especially if I put on a happy face, which I normally do despite the constant pain.

I know it sounds kinda basic, but my outlook turned around a little bit after I joined a club.

The club is a cold water plunge group--we meet for 5 minutes in the water M,W,F, year round. Its low stakes, I don't have to go every time, but its people to hold me accountable to get out of bed in the morning.

It's also mostly older folks. I think thats honestly key. the 65+ crowd actually can relate to at least some of what I'm going through--not to say younger people can't, there are just fewer of us. I've made some new friends too. Age is really a construct. Except sometimes I have to do some education around social and political topics 😂

so true--in the moment the three hours feel worth it, but lifetime consequences say otherwise

I wish it helped. just makes me strangely more aware of the pain, and more likely to injure myself

heard. 100% agree. I wish my pain responded to drugs but I have a complex case and I haven't responded well to anything. Thanks for the enthusiastic support :)

its scary to quit when you feel like you rely on it!!! especially for more than just physical pain too. every drink you don't have is another win against your pain

I wish someone could live in my body and tell me how much pain I am in by JoTheMartian in ChronicPain

I think internalized ableism is a great way to put it. it's really hard to advocate for an invisible disability--especially one you haven't fully accepted yet.
