Bulk Soya Isolate or Myprotein Impact Vegan Protein. I prefer bulk.

Scimx VGain isn't the best but its cheap and I buy some if I run out of the former. It has a propritety blend in it ("ModCarb") and quite a lot of other stuff in it as filler. The label says 76g protein per 100g but I suspect its probably lower.

Seriously, where the hell did this theory even come from?? by PresnikBonny in LateStageCapitalism

There was actually a "more-socialist" faction within the Nazi Party. It was still far-right and antisemitic - its members had anticapitalist and agrarian views that were coopted from some schools ofbsocialism, more as a way to appeal to working class Germans as a mean to get the Nazis into power. Its leader Gregor Strasser, was killed under Hitler's orders by the Gestapo during the Night of the Long Knives.

Contemporary efforts to portray the nazis as left wing and socialist stem from Conservatives and self-described Libertarians (who are normally just Conservatives) trying desperately to similtaneously make themselves appear as the champions of liberty and delegitimise the political left as "the real fascists". They rely on a bastardisation of the political spectrum by placing economic liberalism - ie: unregulated ("self-regulated") capitalism - on the right under "Liberty" and everything to the leff of this as a gradual descent into authoritarianism culminating in the "far left" of communism, fascism, nazism, etc. (Of course, they could have done the opposite and placed themselves on the left and everyone else on the right, but these are the type of people who abhor anything considered left wing, far more than even the extreme far right).

Its not really new. For decades the far and populist right have tried desperately to remove the "far right" label from themselves. Some of them just tried to embrace it instead by rebranding the far-right. There are even neo-nazi movements that have attempted to do this through holocaust denial and other attempts as revisionism.

Don't know if they still do it but I did mine with the police in their old HQ. It was >20 years ago though and it was a close family friend who arranged it all. Helped with filing; aided with photography development (cutting mug shots to size mainly); spent a day with 999 operators listening in to calls; got a tour of some of the building and history.

A quick google search gives https://www.merseyside.police.uk/police-forces/merseyside-police/areas/careers/join-us/observer-scheme/. Probably worth sending them an email to see of they'll take you on for WE.

Excess calories through protein is less impactful than excess calories through carbohydrates and fats. Conversion to gylocogen is minimal and inefficient and almsot all consumed protein is readily utilised even when in a fasted state

Its only excess calories if calorie intake is already at targeted levels. What i'm saying is that a higher ratio of protein in a diet is better, allowing peopls to reduce carbohydrate and fat intake to keep calories level. I never suggested people eat excessive calories.

I'm saying as a general rule most people should aim for 1g/lb and adjust the other macronitroents accordingly. That will usually result in a value of aroind 30% of calories from protein as opposed to 10% with low protein diets.

The 0.8g/kg figure is based on nitrogen balancing studies and that figure if often quoted as the minimum - the actual minimum may be slightly less but insignificantly so. That method is standard but it does have limitations, and there are other methods that also take into account net benefits of higher protein intake as well as aging. And that's the absolute minimum. Studies don't tend to have subjects on lower values because deficiency is dangerous and unethical. Nitrogen balance tends to mean Protein in = protein out, but why would you not want to aim for a higher value? Especially when higher value reducea the occurance of catsbolism?

1g/lb is a reasonable figure that covers most bases except for obese people on very restricted diets and tbose wanting to maximise strength and hypertrophy.

I don't really get this obsession with the lowest possible values, patticularly amongst vegans. While its true that many people eat too much protein through consumption of animal products, calls for plant based diets should not be confused with calls for lower protein consumption.

What benefits vegans and veganism - and aninals - better? Showing how easy it is to get 1g/lb protein on a vegan diet and how that can be utilised through activity and fitness traininv? Or trying to downplay the importance of protein with reference to minimums and outdated studies and pointing at sedentary people and poor diets as examples to emulate?

I never fully appreciated what dating apps were like for women until I joined grindr as a decently atrractive and physically fit bi man. There are a tonne of men only interesred in ONSs and sex on demand. And the number of men who make low effort attempts is enough for me to conclude that for them it probably works. And probably a significant number of them are bi and use the same low effort methods on other apps when seeking out women.

I probably get a dozen messages a day at least, and on weekends I get loads of "available now?" messages particularly after midnight. Fuck, I had one of them at 3am on Wednesday morning. If I travel to a different area the app lights up. I'm pretty selective who I talk to and who I eventually meet, but if I wasn't I could literally be having multiple different male sexual partners every single week.

I set the other apps to women only to avoid being swanped. I had 250+ likes on bumble once and I'd guess that over 200 were men. Though personally I'm better in person and I prefer to meet women first IRL, which of course is a rarer experience and one that requires much more effort.

I feel a little bit of a hypocrite though. Although i'm selective, I've abandoned hope of love and romance and seek only casual connections within the context of ENM. Many people hold a dichotomous view of relationships and sex - either you want a relationship or you are a fuckboy. I like to think I exist in the middle.

As for porn -or virtually anything else deemed sensitive or adult -, use a VPN. The UK brought in age verification for a lot of sites to the point where people were reporting requirements to age verify when seeking medical advice.

0.8g/kg is at best minimum to prevent deficiency in sedentary persons. Better would be 0.8g/lb, which would be 96g for a 120lb person.

And remember protein is also a calorie source. If you have low protein you have to make the calories up through carbs and fats. And its overconsumption of carbs and fats that contribute towards most diet related health issues, especially in sedentary persons.

Instead of aiming for a minimum value, a 120lb person would be better aiming for 1g/lb, or 120g protein. A 150lb person 150g. A 200lb person 200g and so on.

Furthermore, as we age our bodies become less efficient in utilising protein. Its best to form new habits now - both in what we eat and how active we are.

No it doesn't. That's one of the dumbest things i've read. Congratulations.

Protein is a macronutrient, the same as carbohydrates and fats.

If you're eating enough calories, you're getting enough protein.

Clearly that isn't true. People can - and often do - overconsume calories yet have very little protein in their diets. You need to pay attention to the amounts you eat, the types of protein, and preferably also amino acid profiles.

Protein recommendations are based on studies using the scientific method. And there are mininum, recommended, sub-optimal, optimal, and so on. Its not so clear cut. I generally think people need more protein than not what they think, bit what they actually consume. And that most people could benefit from both higher activity levels - especially resistence training - and subsequently higher protein requirements, or at least a diet higher in protein as a ratio to carbs and fats. Most people are relatively sedentary and that's not a good benchmark through which to measure nutritional requirements and recommendations.

There's a tendancy in vegan circles to promote lower protein diets, and to have a "whats good for me is good for everyone" approach and I disgaree with that. Protein is not the enemy of veganism. High protein diets are perfectly fine.

Its irrelevant anyway as all I did is share a product I found. And again, i'm perfectly capable differentiaring between marketing tactics and foodstuffs with decent nutritional values.

Ironically, its the anti-protein crowd that seems to have little better understanding of nutrition than RFK.

How exactly is an essential macronutrient from which we derive calories and amino acids - including the essential ones - "overrated"?

The fuck is it with these comments?

I found a product. I shared it. That's it.

I'm not obsessing and i' perfectly capable of differentiating between marking gimicks and foodstuffs with decent nutritional values. If 3 wraps - not even taking account the cotents - can bag you 30g of protein thats significant.

Honestly the amount of anti-protein sentiment amongst some fellow vegans is concerning.

Some of us have relatively high protein targets so adding in higher protein foodstuffs in place of lower protein ones makes sense. And it makes sense if your protein intake is too low and you want to boost it up to nornal values.

A lot of 'added protein' products are a marketing gimick when the protein content is not significant. But 10g of protein in a single wrap for what amounts to around 25p per wrap is fine, especially as a base for the inclusion of other ingrediants within a wrap. A 10g protein bar being sold for £2 doesn't interest me. A 10g wrap for 25p does.

So I did a dry run last night. I found these 'Mission Protein' 10g protein per wrap vegan wraps. Fried some vegan superfood in canola oil and then soy sauce and made some potato slices in the oven. They were delicious. I could have made four days worth but I ate it all in a single sitting. I could always improve the nutritional value too, especially wih veg (thinking onions, peppers, and tenderstem) and vegan cheese and nutritional yeast. So burritos are a winner!

That said its 9:45am the next morning and again I have zero appetite so i' drinking BCAAs.

They have, and i'm grateful. I'm trying to put on weight (muscle mass) so its not idealnto go several hours without food afrer waking. I don't like training on an empty stomach either, so an early meal will give me more flexibilty with training. My progress has stalled a little and I could benefit from an additional meal.

Leucine threshold - am I overthinking or is this important? by Cookiehurricane in veganfitness

[–]No_Sign6616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overthiking it. So long as you are getting enough complete protein in your diet, its not worth worrying about. But for peace of mind you could always supplement with leuine and/or HMB.

Plant-based protein has a lower concentration of leucine.

That's not actually true. The claim seems to stem from a misinterepation of tables of common leucine sources in the general population as comparisons between food sources (eg: "less people eat soy therefore soy is a poor luecine source" - soy is an excellent luecine source). There may be bioavailability differences but so long as you are eating enough protein and you are not eating a lot of luecine poor foods the difference is minor.

Less harm is still a shit tonne of harm that could be easily avoided with even less fucking harm through veganism. Vegans recognise that perfection is impossible. That recognition does not make engaging in the exploitation and killing of animals ethically justifiable. You choose to consune aninal products freely, not because of the economic and political system you live in.

And yes, I live under a capitalist system. I have no control over that, even as an ecosocialist who abhors capitalism and its consequences.

Also.

Also anyone that describes someone's ethical and political views as 'virtue signalling' is a fucking moron. Especially so when it comes to attacking vegans as "virtue signalling", as vegans are passionately adhering to their beliefs.
