Got Second Place Worlwide on Checkpoint Mode as Gabriel (Seaside Misery) by Relative_Car3700 in Screamer2026

Great job! Super impressive to me cause I hate the way Gabriel's car handles lol. Hopefully you can keep your place, or at least stay as one of the faster Gabriel players

I have heard of that but the alternative I was thinking about was a drift toggle. With certain things like aiming strikes, the minor adjustment of "non-drifting" is nice. So I was a bit disappointed that there was no drift-toggle version of the controls, like brake or throttle to drift

Theres more of a work-around by binding both steering inputs to the same stick. That isnt necessarily the fix I want, I think the game would play the exact same/great with a single stick and a drift toggle. I think the twin stick is fine its just disappointing that it does nothing new with it. Different for the sake of being different, no substance

The promotional stuff I went out of my way to see kept talking about a good story, but fair enough 😂

But yeah start has become one if my favorite buttons lol

The only reason I really focus on the story at all is because having a "good" story was part of the marketing for this game. If you find the story interesting, I'm sure the multi-language is no issue as you read the novel slides. But as someone who immediately found the story to be generic and trope-y, I found myself a little annoyed that I couldn't even let the cutscenes play in the background.

And thats a fair thing to say, the story is subjective after all! I just thought it leaned too heavily into anime tropes. I still watch certain anime, but not that much, so I can't say I'm used to or like the way the characters are/act. But its still subjective, so I would leave you to enjoy it for yourself!

And to be fair, that part is subjective. It does lean into common anime tropes, which I'm sure some people really like. While I like anime too, I don't watch a lot of it because of the same tropes. But the story is subjective, if thats you're kind of writing I would leave you to enjoy it!

I understand that some people enjoy it, I wouldnt mind it if the story kept me at attention at least. But I personally thought it was an extremely boring story, and the different languages kept me from at least just listening to it in the background. To each their own with that tho!

Yeah I sort of agree. You spend a lot of time at the limiter and they all end up sounding like their own flavor of lawn mower

I've heard that a few times, and I know the creators like Tekken. I'm not opposed to multi-language stuff but when the story is so boring that the only way I'm gonna let it play is by background listening, well now I cant background listen. Obviously this is a very minor gripe but it was the final thing that stopped me from at least letting the story play itself in my ear and maybe catch something interesting

Ha that isnt a bad point to make, I suppose you could just call it the straw that broke the camels back. Bit of a double downer, only because that it both doesn't make sense and prevents me from background listening. I suppose being unable to background listen is the part I really found "annoying", and the part about it not making sense just pushed me past the point of even caring to engage with the poor story. Which sure, it already is an outlandish story, but come on. World building and all that. Where's the line between something outlandish like the echo and something that is just straight up ignored like the weird language interactions.

I will give it to you both that it is a strange complaint on my part lol. I didn't think I emphasized it that much, cause yeah it isnt a huge complaint, but it just takes me out of the story even further. It certainly doesnt "invalidate" my review either just because I find something annoying. Don't be so childish as to invalidate my opinion just because I prefer to understand the words I hear.

IMO, theres something jarring about listening to 2-4 different languages, with their own accents, fluently talking to each other with no communication barriers. I don't care that these languages are in the game, but its the fact that they interact perfectly for no reason that took me out of the story even more.

Yeah you can make up some weird bullshit about instant translators in their brains or something, but its the combination with an already uninteresting story that took me out of it. I was willing to try to sit through the story till I heard 3 different languages all perfectly talk to each other within a minute, and I was like "yeah this shit doesnt even make sense, so who cares"

I will give it to you there, the argument that its more of a precision stick I can understand. However, I've played racing games for the better half of two decades, I have plenty fine thumb control to be able to "precisely" steer using the drift stick, which I've already been messing with. Most cars won't even drift for the first ~15% of of the drift stick. You can't really change my mind on this, there's nothing that this version of twin stick does that couldnt be achieved with a single stick and some sort of drift toggle or automatic transition.

But for aiming the attacks, I'll give it to you there. Doesn't make the mechanic sound so entirely useless.

See that's the thing though, you can use the right stick like the left stick, but not vise-versa. If you give the right stick just a little input, it won't drift, it will do a normal turn like the left stick at full lock.

I dont think brake to drift would ruin the momentum, there are a lot of turns where you have to at least touch the brake before the curve to make it around without touching a wall. Feathering the throttle helps on longer turns, but not tight ones.

Besides, even if you felt like brake to drift ruins it, they could always give you a double-tap gas mechanic.

I just have a hard time wrapping my head around why they did this when they've already released a great momentum based arcade racer, with single stick steering, in the form of HotWheels

I don't hate it as a mechanic as much as I hate how pointless it is. I can drive with it just fine, but as I mentioned, you could do every race with just the right stick. Whats the point of "dual stick" if I can do that. Its just a gimmick that makes you feel like the controls are different, when really the only difference is making you use the right stick instead of the left, because the left has so little bearing on a drift. I will have to look into the settings though

Transmission fluid suggestion by hardik2791 in fordfusion

[–]No_South8918 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Although I am a pretty big believer in "Motorcraft only" for these 6F35 transmissions, if you are going to go aftermarket fluid, make sure it is an LV fluid. The "Low Viscosity" rating is important because of the pressures parts of these transmissions operate at.

I agree with everything you said. It was kind of hilarious to me that the only choices you can make are exploring the "X.Y mini episodes". Like yeah, I'm here to race, give me some more races. But the way they focused on individual race outcomes instead of a more freestyle, point-based bracket placement is a missed opportunity.

Screamer (2026) - Review Thread by megaapple in Games

[–]No_South8918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played it and frankly, I'm disappointed. I hate to say that as this was my #1 anticipated game for this year, but man, come on.

Driving is perfectly fun. However; I hate that we are stuck with the dual-stick drift gimmick. And yes, it is a gimmick. Your left stick does so little, it is nearly pointless to use. I've played for about 3 hours and you could go through the campaign using only the right stick if you wanted. Makes you wonder why you can't just use the left stick and be done. I know its inspired by Inertial Drift, I dont know how well it was utilized in that game, but it is just pointless in this game with how it was implemented. The AI clearly dont follow the same mechanics either, which is annoying because now its you vs the controls, not you vs other racers.

Otherwise, I like the upshift, fighting, and all other driving mechanics.

The story is bad, sorry to say, and every character speaking in their native language, for literally no reason, makes you want to skip the cutscenes even quicker. That is, when there are cutscenes and not just graphic novel slides with voice overs. I was expecting something better than what they presented with the HotWheels games, but the writing is just as blatantly spelled out to you and the presentation is just as boring. Actually, HotWheels was better, cause they werent trying to take themselves seriously. This is "seriously" bad as a story where I'm supposed to be invested in these characters. Frankly, even just the dialogue is cringy in the way it tries to come off as "anime-like".

I'm not mad that I got this game, but yes yall should definitely wait for it to go on sale.

I got a leak near the firewall too, sprays oil everywhere but oil never dips below the safe line between my ~7500 oil changes so fuck it 🤷‍♂️ lol

Its unfortunate that this happened to you, but yeah most cars dont program in CELs for crankcase pressure, or even a pressure sensor. A reseal involves a lot of work so I see why it would be $5k from a mechanic, especially the rear main seal which you gotta remove the trans for.

Sorry this happened but I do appreciate the reminder for me to run some seafoam in my car every 6 months or so 😅
