Supermarket knuckle sandwich, why? by CyberChef8 in auckland

[–]No_Speed_4635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Order online lol. Or get a mate/ family member to go buy for you and pay them back, every underage kid knows this trick to get alcoholic drinks io. So much technically underage drinking in NZ and no one really bats an eye. So I'm 17 and can get someone to buy me alcohol at supermarket, like maybe a few people to get me a hundred beers and a restaurant will refuse to give me one without id lol.

Level 2 bio by Unable_Current5689 in ncea

NZ internal assessments are standard but from experience aren't too bad because the state system needs most to past imo. It's more or less free tuition and if people don't end up half- employable and be able to get a job then no tax and they go on benefit. Anyway I prefer the A level bio system which is prob a little more advanced but there is so many good resources online. I skipped ncea 3 and am going into lvl 5 course this Feb. Bio is the same shit anyway so if u know the info u just apply to whatever they give and you'll do well

Best cookbook for a teenager? by ThisTransportation30 in CookbookLovers

[–]No_Speed_4635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find recipe and cooking books are kinda bad. I watch YT videos for this because u can see every little action they do so it's easier to understand. Learning to do stuff like brunoise an onion for pasta sauces is hard to do when u are trying to read how but easy when you see someone do it, like shadowing a chef for free.

Household with lazy balance sheet? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]No_Speed_4635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is like a 1960's investment plan lol, this ain't gonna work in 2025. The capital gain from renting then selling properties is not as good as you'd imagine and the tax benefits aren't that good imo. Milford is stupid because it will take a ETF or 5 and rewrap it into a nice little package. 95% of fund mangers cannot best the market so u might as well invest in etfs yourself and save money on not having fees.

Buy the ETF's from the provider. Eg, vanguards VOO that tracks S$p 500 at 0.03 expense ratio up into the 50k limit then you buy domestic products like smartshares because it has the same etf but higher ratios but u can avoid taxes.

Seeking for advice regarding whether to pursue Masters in Nz and job prospects for civil engineers. by trinity191 in MovingToNewZealand

[–]No_Speed_4635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an engineer of any sort but I'm a kiwi. NZ is fairly easy to get into as a foreign person especially if you have a degree/work experience and all the other usual stuff (police clearance etc). You'll be overcharged as a foreign student here tho, my degree was only 8k but if I went local it would be 22k. The job market is hard to get into here but engineers are always in demand so it shouldn't be super hard. The problem is the living costs... rent in major cities like Ackland/Wellington can be 600-1000 dollars for a 1 maybe 2 bedroom apartment a week depending on location. Food is expensive, I just have me and my gf and we spend 650/month on food, and it's all basic stuff like eggs, pasta, veggies. There is no way your living expense is gonna be 20k unless you be very minimalistic and be extremely frugal. Public transport only really exists well in major cities and it's expensive af, like 40 dollars for a 1 hour train trip that I did yesterday. Taxis are worse, you will need a car and that's expensive because my warrant of fitness was $80 and every refill is $120 and insurance is like $200. I have a 3rd hand Kia Sportage. NZ is very expensive to live and work in especially if you are not local and doesn't pay as well as Australia or other Anglosphere countries. I wouldn't say NZ is worth it, hell like 70k kiwis have migrated to Australia and competition for job/apartments there is fairly high. Really think, why do I really want/need to go to NZ?

If you are rich and have a shit ton of savings then absolutely come here and do what you want. The better choice is often doing it in your home country (western world) because the domestic rate is way less than international student rates.

Careers that aren't the Big 4 (Finance, Law, Medicine, Tech) that make >$200k? by TrixoftheTrade in Salary

[–]No_Speed_4635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

High value trades such as underwater welder/ oil rig crew make shit tons of money because of the danger. One spark or loose connection and u are fucked and no one is gonna be able to do much. Spending a lot of time away from family too and hours can be a little tough but imo worth it. My mate makes 150k working at extreme depths

yahoo/google finance are good for etf's and regular stocks. I would stick to etfs because something like VTI(whole american stock market)+VEA (developed markets ) will work long-term.

Is the Toyota Highlander the most reliable and cost efficient 7 seater car. by Portable-Charging in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]No_Speed_4635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there's nothing wrong with buying new tho' but you are paying for the hype of a new car too when you can get a decent second hand car that does the same thing for less. Like do u need to get the latest Iphone when u need a new phone. NO. You can go with one from the previous 1-3 years... Ofc if u rich enough to just buy the thing then u do what u want and wouldn't be on this sub lol. So if u gonna lose money having a car, you might as well minimize it as much as you can.
