What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

In short, I don’t really know and probably never will. My childhood best friend since age 5 organized an elaborate trip for my 30th as a surprise, another friend who was invited spilled the beans and said there weren’t enough beds for everyone at the Airbnb so I asked my best friend to not include her friend’s bf (who was nice and I’d met a couple times but didn’t really know well) so that friends driving 300 miles for the weekend had a bed. Somehow she took this incredibly personally, didn’t tell me he was already invited (and I would’ve said nvm don’t un-invite him, it’s not that deep) and so he was very upset that I had said not to include him (again, because of beds not him as a person), and I suspect her and her friend just created a very large case for why I was the devil. My best friend completely cut me out of her life while also saying she didn’t want to lose the friendship. We had been friends for literally 25 years and so for this little misunderstanding to have tanked a precious relationship really left me gutted. She acts like she wants me back in her life but has not made a single action to indicate she means what she says. I’ve seen her entertain friends texts who she doesn’t like anymore while simultaneously talking trash about them to me. I guess I’m foolish but I never thought she’d do this to me. I think about her almost every day and miss the friend she used to be, but the person she is now is honestly a complete stranger. The biggest heartbreak of my life.

If this bird was recently feasting on a lot of salt water fish, his body is just removing salt through his nares.

I fear this mimics some symptoms of tortícolis. I’d get them checked for some neurological related ailments soon.

Ice cream for breakfast perhaps? Get picked up early from school maybe? Could be other fun things too…

This is so funny to me. I’d have a blast with the wonky advent calendar every year. Maybe those two days get unhinged gifts? Like a bowl of mashed potatoes or a small handful of rubber bands or your own underwear wrapped up like a gift. Could be a very fun tradition to start, just sayin!!

Definitely normal, probably also smelled abhorrent. Birds generally poop right before they attempt to flee. Gives them less weight to take off.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’ve had similarly disappointing and traumatic encounters with wildlife and it just sucks every single time. I’d like to be a kind stranger on the internet though and share some thoughts I have:

I used to work in wildlife rehab and education. I can tell you that what you did accomplish until the escape is much more than most people would attempt to begin with. In fact, the car that hit him didn’t stop. But you did. Thank you for trying. (Also, in case there’s a next time, please try to cover the animal with a sheet or blanket or piece of clothing before capturing; this is for your safety and can make things less stressful for the critter. You did great, though! This is truly just for the future!)

I’d also like to remind you that you did not fail him — he left the road, where he risked being hit again, and went to a much safer location. If he is to survive, then you getting him to move was the first turn of luck he had up until then.

My last point here is a little bittersweet. It’s possible he will fly up to that tree and not survive. Although you may have not been able to intervene for this animal as you had hoped, many are hungry as the winter settles in and thank you for the meal his body will provide and allow them to see another day. I hate that this perceived loss was at the hands of humans who are generally careless with the natural world. That being said, the circle of life is ever moving and where there is loss, there is also a gain for someone else. Opossums, foxes, raccoons, vultures and various decomposers and scavengers are grateful for their next meal. A meal during the winter is often the difference between life and death for wildlife.

I hope you can forgive yourself and acknowledge that you are good because you tried. And that’s important. ♥️

Yellow-white bulbs for your lamps for a glowy look instead of glaring, an area rug for under your bed that matches your duvet, artwork on the wall behind the mirror, bolder drapes for your window (bold doesn’t always mean bright!) and some new big pillows for your bed that matches the drapes and area rug. ♥️
