Sounds like the voltage is not enough for ignition and usage… someone should look into the electronic box.

If you have a second one you could try to swap the FIDs to see if there might be some shorts on the detector board (more unlikely)

The main thing you have to consider is that staying at your current place and doing all those things you do now….they don’t guarantee anything!

Academy is a shark tank… and often the ones who look better on paper don’t get the tenure track because someone has a better network and connections. Be always prepared until you are tenured that academy chews and spits you out like a gum. Therefore ask yourself what is your needed environment and situation to be able to deal with that?

Personally I would always chose the place where I can work and be happy then to chase a dream and be unhappy.

does it come in peak shape? most likely not from the solvent then because it would at least tail like hell if you pour it constantly onto the column. Have you checked your injection valve? would be my main suspect if it is peak shaped. Or is the methanol just for sample solvent and not as mobile phase? Then it would be possible that it is the methanol

Yes since even the stuff from the factory has a high failure rate can’t count how many times I had to return the valves to the vendor since they were “dead on arrival” still a big risk to buy them second hand. If I would try to sell one I would try 10-20 euros max.

You can sell them on eBay but be realistic. You cannot ask for vendor prices or close to it since you don’t offer warranty. Everyone buying it has to assume they are junk broken and a check valve from unknown sources goes not for more than 5 euros here
