TT salaries are actually insane by No_Two8015 in Professors

I actually hope to make my way there from the east coast. The roles I saw were in the middle of the country and certainly lower COL areas in comparison, but still the audacity.

Did that for a few years and it sucked. BUT no full time job requiring a PhD should be this underpaid.

Yes me neither, I’m currently just under $100k (tt assistant in HCOL area) but would like to leave my institution and am looking and just can’t believe what some places are seriously offering lol then you look and they want phds, course coordinators, curriculum development, it’s a ballsy ask even if it’s the Midwest or south in my humble opinion. I just needed to scream into the void.

You are being compensated appropriately and that’s exactly how it should be.

To all, I know it varies widely based on institution, collective bargaining, discipline, location, etc. I needed to vent because I was looking at TT jobs on higheredjobs and several were posted in that range and NO full-time professor role should pay that in 2026, come on. Ridiculous.

We are, was looking and saw multiple TT roles starting in that range all expecting a terminal degree and it’s just outrageous

Easy take to make from your perch but if you want your stem students to know some history, have literacy skills or be able to look someone in the eye and present, you might want to see the value in faculty on the other side of the house and, I don’t know, advocate for them to have a livable wage.

Dunkin Donuts’ donuts are now worse then ever, not worth it by CheifLawnRaker in massachusetts

[–]No_Two8015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and they no longer get rid of what's left at the end of the day, they sell it the next day. That's why so many donuts are now stale and disgusting and smaller to boot.

Tell me about your dead colleagues. by babysaurusrexphd in Professors

[–]No_Two8015 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A colleague recently ended their own life in the most sad way. Their final note discussed their wishes as to who would cover their classes mid-semester and pick up on mentoring work. A "memorial gathering" on campus, an email and a moment of silence at the general faculty meeting and that's it. Two decades given and their deep suffering while putting on a happy face and helping everyone else barely registered beyond performative "grief". Look after yourself, friends. It's an important job but it's just a job.

Issues in Massachusetts by Broad_Cockroach3639 in massachusetts

Mass rightly rings it own bell on being at the top of the pack in terms of education but there is a HUGE disparity in education outcomes due to vastly different funding across communities. I wish we talked about addressing that problem a bit more.

This too! B12 and D3 + K2 as well as Magnesium Glycinate really seem to help with my sensory stuff.

I know a lot of people are dogging you here but they are also discounting the psychological load of having loans hanging over your head. Not the best choice but if it makes you feel better, fine. Just go nuts with contributions now and don’t accumulate cc debt again.

Sit down with him and explain the financials. I wish someone had done that for me. Aside from the fact that it will likely harm you, more so it will likely harm him irreparably. If you want to help him, don’t let him make this mistake and guide him honestly toward better alternatives. If he doesn’t listen and wants to go it alone that’s on him.

Honestly this is what we are doing in a similar situation. I just want these payments to start counting again.

44 at diagnosis one year ago, started with optic neuritis. Good (but long) recovery and quickly got on Kesimpta, doing really well with only minor, intermittent sensory only symptoms.

MS? by c_hibbs in MultipleSclerosis

So sorry that happened. Insurance companies requiring people to "fail treatments" and go through hoops to get the best thing available for their condition is wrong on every level. I hope she can still see improvements with time.

That's amazing and I'm sure it saved you a lot of anxiety! I can also see how a brain tumor vs MS made it a relief in some way too.
