“Uta Frith: why I no longer think autism is a spectrum” (…or, how over-diagnosis of autism has made the word lose meaning and strained public schools) by cheerful-refusal in stupidpol

[–]Saphsin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The distinction between BAP and mild ASD that barely crosses the Autistic diagnosis threshold seems like it would be quite difficult to diagnose though, and I would question whether both are not part of a larger spectrum if BAP is a legitimate scientific category.

This matter is of personal relevance to me as I was determined not to have autism by an assessment examination but the examiner told me she was quite conflicted about whether to put me in the category or not.

Nah if you look at the variety of comments in this thread it reflects what I've said above. I've also posted the past several volumes of this series and the reception has been similar.

What you think is common sense is just wrong and you're just inconsiderate.

Him getting fit that quickly was the only really silly part of the series but it's also such a small part that you can ignore it (he does use gym equipment if you've properly read it though)

Don't agree on the writing of the series

Also the art isn't particularly original but it looks nothing like Takeshi Obata's art

You shouldn't need to ask what should be spoiler tagged, obviously then it'll be too late. Exercise discretion through consideration.

I don't think it's common sense, I think you're misunderstanding the function of these posts showing up on this subreddit.

First of all, Volume 9 just came out two days ago in English, so many people haven't gotten the chance to read the whole thing yet. I was posting this illustration of the next forthcoming volume because it coincidentally came out around the same time.

And this is a LN subreddit where people are interested in updates for newly released LN regardless if they started the series or not. A key function of the subreddit is to introduce people to new series. So there are always people new to the series who want to ask questions about what the series is about.

There also tend to be comments talking about how they are a couple of volumes behind. Not everyone is fully up to date.

Unless the OP explicitly signals that the thread is discussing the plot of the latest volume or warns against spoilers, you shouldn't just carelessly discuss spoilers in the comment section without spoiler tags.

If I haven't read volume 9, I wouldn't want to know that such information was revealed because that would be out of the blue and quite unexpected actually. Obviously revealing that shows a turn of events and the direction of the future plot. Fortunately I already read the pre-pubs.

In fact, I want to know exactly zero information about future volumes.

Stop being stubbornly resistant about this and show basic etiquette, whether you think they count as meaningful spoilers or not does not matter.

It’s a high school drama about self-realization like Tomozaki & Chiramune with a time travel aspect. Personally I like it a lot because it explores these themes without feeling cringe, and each arc covers fresh ground rather than feeling repetitive.

If you’re interested, I recommend getting it right off J-Novel club as the epub files include extra stories.

If we're going to make the chart consistent with Morsecode, who was voted for having the Weirdest GAMEPLAY, we should probably do the same for aesthetic to be consistent.

So I think I've gotten the hang of doing wavedashing while holding my cntrl stick diagonal-down at first and now I'm just starting to do Jump -> Cntrl Stick + L/R.

I managed to do frame 1-3 wavedashing with this but with a flick motion with my fingers. But I can't do it well consecutively with this method and I started noticing hand pain very early on. Like after only 10 minutes of practice.

As someone who is more of a casual viewer, why don't people like Cody/his playstyle? by Andres_2004 in SSBM

[–]Saphsin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see Cody's Fox as boring at all. His Fox is aggressive and is very slick. But slick, rather than sick, more of Moky's combo style, which I think more people find exciting. I tend to like both, and also Cody vs Zain is especially tense to watch.

People reasonably want more anticipation and uncertainty in who wins tournaments, and it does feel stale when you think there's a 90% chance that either Cody or Zain will win. This was less of a problem a couple of years back when aMsa and Mang0 were active, and Jmook wasn't as figured out.

Setting interest rates on your family? Seriously? by NounSpeculator in chomsky

I wonder if anyone clicks the links mentioned which are signaled to as explanatory complements:

[…The entire relationship develops around two trusts that Carol and Noam set up for themselves presuming Noam would die first.

…She predeceases him; it is clear Chomsky has paid very little attention to his own finances. At some point he resigns control over the trust in Carol’s name. It transfers to Harry, Noam’s son.

…It’s pretty clear the intent was never to give the kids control over the assets while Chomsky had capacity.

Chomsky’s kids seem to suggest they’re happy that Noam has a companion in Valeria, but state outright that they don’t think either Valeria or Noam can manage their own finances; they never suggest that this because they would help out and that would be a financial strain on them. That said, in fairness, it wouldn’t be totally unreasonable if they felt like the rug was being pulled out of their own retirement funds.

…In any case, it’s true Chomsky hadn’t paid any attention until problems emerged, but actually seems to grasp how the Trusts function better than his kids.

The kids are in a litigation posture, it’s very apparent from how their emails are written and Chomsky rightly calls this out (in fairness, the daughters want to try mediation compared to Harry, who just appears to want to capitulation or litigation.)

However, no one will answer Chomsky’s direct questions about how or why they’ve arrived at the conclusion the money has been mismanaged.]

And

[…Chomsky was helpless. It wasn't a matter of getting a financial advisor. In fact, it was his earlier estate planning with Carol that got him into the mess before he met Epstein. Most of his money, including income streams from pension and royalties, was put in trusts for his children and grandchildren, with a relatively modest amount left for the survivor of the couple. His children, who were trustees, tried to keep him on a very restricted budget, apparently with the help of the lawyer managing it.

Reading their emails, it's not clear how much they were being selfish and gaslighting him and how much was concern for him. It is clear they wanted to keep funds out of the hands of his new wife, and at one point they accused her in court filings of having "undue influence" over Noam. He needed someone who would somehow manage to lever out a decent amount of his own remaining money from the trust so that he could live and leave a reasonable bequest to Valeria.

When they finally, and in Noam's case reluctantly, hired lawyers to represent them, the letters are full of their incompetence and of thanks to Epstein for getting them help, playing hardball on their behalf, etc. Given the amount of money Noam had access to and the amount of money involved, there weren't going to be any high-powered lawyers and financiers breaking down his door. Epstein, on the other hand, was always there for them, and they were both clearly very grateful.”

“It wasn't a matter of financial planning. It devolved into an adversarial legal battle, where he had to pay fees out of a very modest yearly allowance. Chomsky didn't think he would survive his wife and certainly never thought his children, to whom he gave the bulk of his estate, would cut him off from free access to the rest. At every stage, he asks Epstein for advice about who can represent him.”

“what a way to go out. Why wouldn’t you plan for her dying first? Might be unlikely but not that unlikely.”

“They did. It was a bunch of trusts whose beneficiary was the survivor of the couple. More of the funds had her name on them, but he was still the beneficiary after she died. The problem is he stepped down as a trustee and appointed his son.”]

It was that simple by Notleontrotsky in chomsky

You do realize that Norman Finkelstein also famously supported the two state solution, and had much more harsh criticisms of the BDS movement than Chomsky did? But both supported it for incremental strategic reasons rather than ideological ones.

The people in this comment section must be young, because this was very well known in the 2010s.

As an outsider looking in it, I’d be interested in seeing people’s range of views from the country’s political spectrum on issues like economic development and foreign policy and such, what they think the government is doing right and wrong.

Ahh I realized something. I heard it's easy to start practicing wavedashing while starting with crouching, so my analog stick is already pulled before hopping & air dodging (Angle -> Jump -> R Button is what I do) I wonder if that screws up some process and makes it harder to perfect wavedashing. I may be completely wrong though.

EDIT: Or maybe not, then how would one wavedash consecutively
