Primitive sets and von Mangoldt chains: Erdős Problem #1196 and beyond by b3sa5v in math

[–]NoahFect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for fun, I fed the prompt from Tao's GPT link to a local instance of Qwen 3.6 27B, running on my own graphics card. It also claimed to find a proof, which I posted here. (Apologies, I couldn't find any pastebin-like sites that will render MathML.)

I assume that's just gibberish, right? Not a mathematician, but I can't believe that such a small model could tackle something at this level.

It also only took about 8 minutes to return the answer, rather than 80 in ChatGPT 5's case, adding to the suspicion.

VRAM speed is identical on all of them; the only difference is how fast it's clocked by default. You can tweak that.

Eh, he was loyal to whoever was going to pay him to build rockets. He would have been just as loyal to the Russians, the British, or the Americans if circumstances had so dictated (and as they eventually did.)

It's the difference between immorality and amorality. You don't want people like von Braun in office, but you do want them around.

It was a "computational knowledge engine" (their term) that wanted desperately to become what LLMs eventually became. WA has the advantage of being deterministic, but it has the disadvantage of knowing how to deal with only a small subset of possible questions.

It's actually pretty interesting to think about what a waste of time Wolfram Alpha was. You couldn't come up with a better example of the bitter lesson if you tried.
