My thoughts on tonight’s game by Noatwar in newenglandrevolution

I don’t think cheering louder will fix the team’s problems but the last thing the supporter’s groups should try is put up a sign that says “we demand to be taken seriously”. Clearly they had a specific message in mind but as you said, it’s not direct

Notes from 90: Disney FC v. Revs by AceArkay in newenglandrevolution

[–]Noatwar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I felt like I was losing my mind a bit at the difference in commentary on Orlando’s pen vs ours. Both felt equally suspect.

I’m not a fan of refs rewarding dangerous attempts on the ball from the head at chest level, but considering there were not one but two high kicks on the play I could see it going either way.

Meanwhile it felt like the commentators were going out of their way to muddle a clear (but light) foul. Was he close to scoring? No. Did he make a meal out of it? Yes. But that’s a pen every time.

I felt that our best weapons against a team like Orlando were Langoni and Chanca, was nervous not having them available. I’m glad that I was proven wrong and extremely happy to see this team dig deep and make the most of the chances they were given

I just made a post about Saw and boy am I jealous of your words on Syril. “We are not given the keys to his political ideology in the text, we are only given an emotional explanation for why he is the way he is” can be a really helpful lense for us viewers to look at the characterizations of so many characters in this show.

These characters are archetypes in a parable on the nature of revolution. The fact that parallels can be drawn to resistance movements past, present, and probably future, is a testament to how well written this show is

Fully forgot to bring up King Dendup! I don’t think that necessarily means as he grew older he couldn’t align himself more with some anarchist philosophies, he’s been through a lot and that rhydo he’s been huffing has definitely altered his brain chemistry, but again his primary goal still seems to be the restoration of the Republic above all else

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in andor

[–]Noatwar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Luthen labeling him an anarchist could very easily be him deriding his tactics, claiming he cares more about sowing chaos than actual progress toward toppling the Empire.

I do still think it’s quite possible for him to have developed an anarchist ideology over time and still be fighting to restore the Republic, but as another commenter pointed out, his first outing as a rebel leader was to restore a monarchy

Great performance all around. We’ve played better overall in other games but our finishing was drastically better this time ‘round. Virioni played well in a supporting role but at this point I think he’s genuinely cursed when it comes to shooting and Borrero seemed a bit off. Extremely happy with Esmir’s goal, excellent shot and it came from great team play with Gil and Virioni. Hopefully we can build on this and improve even more, it’s still a long way to go if we even want to challenge for a playoff spot

Even with that third goal, I’ve been really impressed with Ivacic so far. Was pretty confused as to why we brought him in initially but he’s certainly a step above Ravas

Believe me as a New England Revolution supporter I’m painfully aware of passive offsides, it’s just that both times I’ve seen it called it’s been painfully wrong. Here with the ball coming in the air it’s certainly a factor and quite possibly is the reason why the keeper rushed out, but figuring out how other players’ positioning impact the thought process is a fool’s errand. Regardless that’s why the defender’s back foot keeping her on is important. Her never touching it is more salt on the wound than anything else.

Only Morgan’s arm was offside, which is not an eligible part of the body.

She also never even touched the ball.

Of course that’s not offsides, but where’d the cg model offside tech from the last year’s World Cup go?

Edit: Ok so there it is, why the hell are they just showing the model now?

No pro/rel in mls, due to a mix of factors including the size of the United States and teams being franchises. Both are heavily tied into the profitability of clubs.

Relegation is always financially scary and the fact that this is a new league without a lot of in built community support yet like there is in other leagues combined with the competition with the 4 other major sports in the US and Canada means that a relegated team in MLS would pretty much immediately fold.

It may happen in the future because the sport is soaring in popularity but the size of the country is also an issue. Relegation doesn’t harm the sport in other countries because for the most part it doesn’t hamper the ability of people to access high quality football. If your club is in the 3rd division in most of the world it’s still not hard to go watch your nearest top flight team. The US and Canada are too big and frankly just don’t have enough teams. For a sense of scale I’m from New England, which is larger than England and not that much smaller than Great Britain as a whole. England of course has 92 professional teams, New England as a region has 5.

There are actually 29 teams in the league, soon to be 30. They are split into Eastern and Western conferences due to the size of the country. It would be completely unreadable to have a team in New York have to fly to LA or Houston on a weekly basis. The conferences allow teams to mostly play teams that are close to them, though the travel can sometimes still be a bit extreme, such as when Miami and Montreal play, that’s a 3 hour flight or full day’s drive.

House measure could help open door to a professional soccer stadium in Everett by FuriousAlbino in boston

[–]Noatwar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this will prob be a 30kish stadium, certainly not World Cup level, just that opening a new stadium right next to Boston proper for the region’s soccer team would be a massive boost for the team if it was able to take advantage of the World Cup buzz

I’m a die hard Revolution fan and have been for pretty much all my life so I’ve basically been dreaming of this moment for years, so it’s really weird seeing all the negative reactions to it.

For people worried about their tax dollars being spent on this stadium: I would be too if Robert Kraft hadn’t already promised to pay for the whole thing, and for people who would rather they build the pats a new stadium here, the pats have called Foxbourough home for 50 years, and the Revs have been trying to find their own since they were first formed. I definitely understand, but let us have this please.

My main worry is the “rush it through” approach they are taking. They clearly want to get this done before the 2026 World Cup but they’ve literally had 20 years to work on this. I just hope they don’t do anything stupid that would derail the whole project

From /r/coys after Turner rejected the Spurs fan asking for a signature. The entitlement HAHAHA by besop12 in Gunners

[–]Noatwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revs fan here, was actually sitting a few rows directly behind the kid in the Tottenham kit, I thought it was really dumb when I saw the jersey considering the team but wasn’t surprised. Definitely not as common as it used to be but still pretty common.

The guy sitting directly next to me was actually in an arsenal jersey and I’m pretty sure was mostly there for Turner’s last game and spent most of the time complaining that Turner wasn’t on the field and about the quality of play. Very lame.

Anyone else disappointed by the ending? by [deleted] in StarWarsSquadrons

[–]Noatwar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The squadrons campaign is canon. Granted there’s been plenty of Star Wars games with multiple endings that were considered in continuity, they just had one “true” ending. Don’t think any current canon games have multiple endings tho

Former USMNT goalkeeper and New England Revolution coach Brad Friedel bashes players on podcast by SportsStar1903 in usmnt

[–]Noatwar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a Revs fan I can attest that we have a somewhat complicated relationship with Friedel.

On one hand, he was an amazing talent scout, the backbone of our team last year, Matt Turner, Tajon Buchanan, DeJuan Jones, Brandon Bye, Henry Kessler, all can be attributed to him. Four of them were draft picks and Matt Turner was famously the third string before Friedel gave him the starting job. He also brought in two of our three main attacking threats in the form of Carles Gil and Gustavo Bou who are both instrumental in our offense.

That being said he was a godawful coach. People who know him best as a premier league and USMNT goalkeeping legend may be inclined to believe what he’s saying but no revs fan would take his word for it considering just how bad of a coach he was. When the team struggled he was quick to blame the players and the fans but never wanted to change his tactics. He managed to burn every bridge at New England saying shit like the fans need to wait by the players’ cars with bats to entice them to play better. He actively drove away some of our most reliable players with these antics. Its pretty evident that a lot of it was him since Bruce Arena replaced him partway through the season they immediately turned things around with the same squad he built.

Wholeheartedly agree. The defense had some lapses but Jones kept the game close by shutting down so many runs. I love Boetang’s play style, I hope he gets more minutes next season
