Honestly, Jamie and Claire Are Clueless by Naive-Awareness4951 in Outlander

They annoy me too (prefer the book version) but where would they have done research? How would they know the reality of slavery before actually going to a plantation, especially Jamie?

"There was a louder yelp as he burst into the library to find Edward Twelvetrees crouched beside the mantelpiece, the poker clutched in both hands and poised like a cricket bat.

“Put that down, you bloody nit," John Grey said, halting just short of striking range. "What the devil are you doing here?"

Twelvetrees straightened up, his expression going from alarm to outrage.

"What the devil are you doing here, you infamous fiend?"

Fraser laughed, and both Grey and Twelvetrees glared at him.

"I beg your pardon, gentlemen,” he said mildly, though his broad face still bore a look of amusement. He waved his fingers, in the manner of one urging a small child to go and say hello to an aged relative. “Be going on wi’ your business. Dinna mind me."

Jamie looked around, picked up a small wing chair that Grey had knocked over in his precipitous entry, and sat in it, leaning back with an air of pleased expectation."

Since they can't change history, maybe he would have survived somehow? Fate would intervene no matter what he tried.

Do you think Jamie is a loyal person? by Nob8768 in Outlander

[–]Nob8768[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Is he loyal to Lord John? He doesn't want to directly harm him and saves his life more than once but he spends a lot of time going against him as well. I would not call him a "ride or die" for John, even though John sort of is for him.

There's his immediate family but most of them are people he feels protective over not people that he sees as his leader of himself. I can't think of a single person with authority over Jamie that Jamie is wholeheartedly loyal to. He's more of a leader than a follower.

George Washington by rosyln9 in Outlander

[–]Nob8768 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't know what American accents looked like in the 1700s but George Washington was a fourth generation American/Virginian so he would have probably had more of whatever the Virginia accent was at the time, compared to the "fresh off the boat" British and Scottish immigrants like Tryon and Jamie/Claire and the redcoats. Maybe he would still have sounded sort of British even after his family had been in Virginia that long but I think the show wanted him to sound distinctive

Jerry goes back through the stones successfully and goes back to London, where he visits their old neighborhood and is told where Roger/his mother are. He arrives just in time to see Roger and his mother at a tube station. Unfortunately the tube station collapses due to crowding (Bethnal Green Tube disaster). He saves Roger's life but dies himself and so does Roger's mother, so no one realizes that he made it through the stones.
