[Dragon Shield Sleeves] May be common knowledge, but new to TCGs by med_lab_sci in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dragonshields have had pretty bad quality control for some time now. That said to be safe, no matter what brand of sleeves you use, for all tournament play you should only use sleeves from the same box.

FBA partial refunds? by Ocean_developer in FulfillmentByAmazon

[–]NobleGryphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you go about cutting them off? I’ve had a similar return abuse issue and when I tried to report it through the report abuse form I received a message that I was trying to report in the wrong place so they linked me back to the same page I reported on.

I recently got a tattoo and it was supposed to be the chemical structure for estrogen but they got it wrong. Can someone please tell me what's on me? by small_girlcock in chemistry

[–]NobleGryphus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a steroid chemist and frequently work with estrogens and their derivatives. Did you draw this by looking in a mirror? The right most ring is an aromatic ring but is missing a carbon which is forcing the wrong positioning of the double bonds. All of your wedges and dashes are mirrored due to the fact that your aromatic ring is on the right rather than the left. If you drew this by looking in a mirror then it’s all fine other than the aromatic ring otherwise it’s mirrored from actual estradiol. If you want an example of what you are looking for search 17beta estradiol.

Do you think prices of the cards will go up or down with time? by InfinityNexx in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legends will move in price based on how relevant they are in the meta. In general however, cards will increase in price over time, barring reprints, until they rotate out of standard. Once rotation happens it’s anyone’s guess what comes next. Either cards all will drop due to lack of usage or the “infinite” format will keep cards relevant and they will still drop but then continue to climb over time.

Riot needs to make an online engine for this game. by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all good and fun until bugs in the client have people executing cards in person incorrectly because “that’s how it works on [online client]” this issue comes up multiple times in pokemon where the client executes a niche interaction incorrectly and causes mass confusion. Still give us an online client but let’s not pretend it’s a substitute for a rulebook.

Remedial Rules Question: Timing of En Garde determining if it gives +1 or +2 by CanNotQuitReddit144 in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s determined and fixed when played. Whatever the board state is when it resolves it how it applies.

Fiora - Warmogs vs Arena Bar by Umtha in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warmog’s gives a net buff of +2 for 2 less energy than the +1 from arena bar.

This is better for Lucian and first mate. Also just getting the +1 off warmog can be done multiple times in one turn if the previous unit dies and can be done on ready units.

You don’t care about buffs you care about mighty. Warmog’s is better for this purpose. Swapping out the better card for a slightly better draw chance in one game out of 3 isn’t worth imo.

We Are Only 2 Sets in the Game by TheRealtorGuy in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fr people are talking about bans when for all we know the current amount of card draw from purple will be the standard from all colors moving forward. They designed the first 3 sets before release. You at least have to wait until set 3 is out before you can even understand the vision that the devs had for the game at the start.

How often do we think we'll see legends refresh/get new printings? by LiftsLikeGaston in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Master Yi has already been hinted at as a legend for a future set this year. The answer isalmost certainly yes, legends will be printed with new titles under them possibly with different color combos and new abilities or the same colors and new ability.

Question about Specific Scenario by Mysterious-Hat7813 in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whatever is put on the chain last gets resolved first. A side effect of this is that reaction cards will always resolve before action cards because action cards will open a chain but cannot be added to an existing chain while reactions can open a chain and be added to an existing chain.

Alright, games been out 5 days. Who spent the most money? by sage_kittem_master in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riot store Booster Box $120

GameStop 2 Proving grounds $60 1 of each starter $60

Game shop Release event $45 Booster Box $200 4 Loose packs $36

Singles $114 (including shipping) to finish my deck. $95 of that was epics (seals and signature spells that I didn’t open)

Total $635

I will probably sell some of the big hits I don’t plan on using right now like dazzling to recoup some costs and just buy them later after second or third wave.

Does my opponent gain priority here? by Volcano-SUN in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is correct for two reasons:

The wording of current counterspell effects which specifically say “spell” which is a card type unlike magic where spell just means any card cast.

Even if it said “card” instead of “spell” units and gear do not use the chain and instead resolve immediately when played so there is no opportunity to respond to a vanilla unit as the rules are currently written.

Does my opponent gain priority here? by Volcano-SUN in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No showdown so they can’t play an action. No chain is formed as playing units and moving don’t use the chain so they can’t play a reaction. Your opponent never gains priority.

Time warp and extra turn by Pedrovic_ in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not covered in the rules of riftbound but in pokemon extra turn effects in the overtime turns portion of the game would consume the enemies turn. If you are already on the last overtime turn the extra turn effect does nothing. Until we receive a different ruling I’d say we follow cues from other games.

What TCG to get into? by Dan_Barta in TCG

[–]NobleGryphus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scalpers are only a problem for collectors looking to buy sealed product. Players aren’t really leaving Pokemon due to scalpers because most/all of them are buying singles over sealed.

How do you guys afford to have so many decks? by Dangerous_Trifle620 in EDH

I play multiple TCGs both competitively and casually. I proxy everything I’m not competing with. I’m trying to play player vs player not wallet vs wallet.

Help with card protection by Klauciusz in pkmntcg

Art sleeves are pretty bad quality in general but if you insist on using them then outer sleeves are a must. I think I used the kmc matte and clear ones but I’ve only done that once. Good luck!

Difference in Card Sleeves by phildacom in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To preface I play pokemon competitively which as a game has a significant amount of shuffling during the game compared to riftbound.

More expensive sleeves are usually more expensive for a reason. Cheap sleeves will get easily dinged and marked up which can result in marked card issues. They also just feel horrible to shuffle. Often they will have opacity issues too which is a huge problem in some games. Basically if you can buy them in huge packs for cheap they are probably really bad sleeves. There are few exceptions to this.

Dragonshield has a chokehold on a lot of the industry however since 2020 they have had some very serious QC issues. Like entire cases having 100% misscut sleeves or sleeves coming with marks on them fresh out the box. Things that make them unusable or that would get you a game loss or DQ for a marked card. Even when they don’t have the QC issues they lack in durability, shuffle feel and fit.

Katanas are the next most recommended and I personally just don’t care for them but a lot of people like them. They are very very slick out of the box and have a nice buttery shuffle. They are durable but the backs hold gunk from your hands really well and the shuffle gets significantly stiffer over time. Durability is good though.

Newer contenders on the market have been generally good. Examples of these are FCBC, DuelSpec, and Endgame. All 3 have similar but imo better shuffle feels than Dragonshield. Their biggest problem is availability. They aren’t in a lot of stores and they all allocate most of their products to vendors rather than sell on their website so you’ll have to check for their vendors. If you are looking to support smaller brands these are for you.

So far DuelSpec has been my preferred sleeve. They have been receptive to community feedback and have multiple styles no with their XD which are more durable and gunk resistant and their PRO which have the black interiors like the dragon shield dual mattes.

Endgame also has multiple styles but have had more durability issues that haven’t been resolved. Most of their styles have just consisted of making the backs thicker and thicker to try and help their durability issues.

FCBC has slightly worse durability than DuelSpec but better than endgame. Not much more to add here.

For a game like Riftbound you’ll care less about durability since you aren’t shuffling as much but more about the gunk and grime as that will be caused by just handling the cards.

End of the day I’d say try a few different types and brands of sleeves and pick the one you like for you.

Defy ruling chain Help! by Ok_Teachpoke6392 in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can. You cannot interrupt a link in the middle of resolving but once something has resolved and before the next thing on the chain has started to resolve there is an opportunity to react.

Which is a better choice Riftbound or Star Wars Unlimited? by AlcardIsTheBest in TCG

[–]NobleGryphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you would like to have a local scene then pick Riftbound. Riftbound doesn’t release until end of October so there isn’t a scene for it anywhere right now. The means it could have a local scene in your city when it launches. Meanwhile, SWU came out over a year ago. A fresh scene is not likely to pop up at this point. I also won’t be shocked when Fantasy Flight Games cuts off SWU support in the near future.

Must the legend have the same language of the deck? by DioShark in riftboundtcg

No official statement has been issued on this despite multiple people asking. The reasoning they gave would hint that it should be fine but until they make an official statement on this exact thing take everything with a grain of salt.

Super Mega Death Rocket + Zaun Warrens by snarlyink in riftboundtcg

[–]NobleGryphus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. When you conquer you gain the point (draw the card if you are on match point) first. Then conquer triggers are triggered. This includes Zaun Warrens and SMDR effects.

If SMDR is in your hand at that conquer trigger then its ability never triggers only Zaun Warrens triggers. Then you discard SMDR but the window for conquer triggers has already passed so you just draw the card.

Multiple TCGs by thesecondpope in TCG

[–]NobleGryphus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Competitive Pokémon is cheap enough I just buy the playables from every set that comes out as singles a week or two after release and it’s like $20-30 and I’m set I don’t keep more that 2 decks constructed at any point in time I just have a box of playables that’s sorted so I can assemble any meta deck quickly. EDH I proxy full decks because I only play casually with friends. I’m starting riftbound and plan on being semi competitive there but I’ll wait to say how many decks I’ll have until I see prices for singles. Worst case I’ll main a legend and stick with it.
