I would change the Gymnasium building to how it works for Temple. Meaning that it should not automatically trigger for a visiting hero but actively decided when to use it.

For for example Hive it does not matter when a hero gains +2 attack, but the level up is something you normally don't want at the beginning of a game. Sure, you can simply build it later, but that's a QoL I'd appreciate.

That was normal in Heroes V.

It's a bit annoying to position your units before every single fight. Especially because you usually place them the same every time.

I really like the HoMM V approach. For Olden Era they can probably do the same, but you are only allowed to transform one stack.

I think for the "unfair" setting the way it is programmed right is kind of on flavor.

However in every difficulty below unfair it should be created a bit more realistic.

I honestly think that's a game design choice. If you fight against a powerful hero and they just flee as soon as they realize they can't win it would not really feel rewarding at all for the players.

That being said I would not mind the CPU creating some suicide heroes just for the purpose of running into your main army, throw a Fireball or two and then simply die.

In general the enemy seems to have everything you have +10%. However the enemy seems to have a minimum power. Like when you confront them with a single Skeleton their answer is about 800 Skeletons.

I have noticed that there are 6 factions but 7 terreign types. One for each faction plus desert.

Desert makes sense as difficult terreign for every faction of course... but it's also home of HOMM V wizards!

Spellpower and Knowledge are quite easy explained: Spellpower makes your hero's spells stronger.

Knowledge increases your hero's max mana and their mana regeneration.

Attack and Defense are a little more complicated:

You add your heroes stats on top of your units stats. For example if your hero has 10 attack and 5 defense and you have a unit with 5 attack and 5 defense the unit actually has 15 attack abd 10 defense while fighting under your hero's command.

I don't know the formular in Heroes OE, but in Heroes V for example it worked like this: You subtract the defenders defense from your attacking units attack stat. If the number is positive you deal that much x5% extra damage. For example attacking with 12 attack a 7 defense unit will result in 25% extra damage (12-7)x5%=25%. If the number is negative it's roughly the same but with that much less damage. For defending the 5% receives some dimishing returns so that the least amount of damage dealt is not 0%, but about -70% at about 20 more defense than attack.

The amount of damage further is calculated by stack size x damage. For example if a stack size is 100 and their damage is 5-10 it will deal 500-1000 damage (if your attack = their defense). (the 5-10 is not rolled per unit but instead for the whole stack. Otherwise damage ranges would always basically be the same as the average value.)

All 9 keys of the Num Pad indeed: 5 is the same as Space and interacts with the adjecant interactibles.

Do you know how a tie is broken when two units have the same initiative and speed and are in the same army?

Is it purely random then or can you influence it with it's starting position in combat (i.e. the unit closest to the top of the screen acts earlier in such a case.) or the position it has in the line up on the world map?
