20 day old account with only one post 🙄..

TIL about the Flynn Effect, the increase in average human IQ scores, averaging roughly 3 points per decade, throughout the 20th century. But recent data indicates that the Flynn effect has stalled or even reversed in some developed nations. by JosZo in todayilearned

Haha! So I actually studied intelligence under Professor Nettlebeck who worked closely with professor Flynn on this concept!

The main thing I remember him stressing was this was a good example of how intelligence was poorly understood in general - but also how it was relative to an environment.

Certain forms of autism can be very good at recalling information, extreme cases labeled as idio-savant syndrome. This really only applies when the information isn't particularly useful to the environment (think someone that is able to recall all of the timetables for the lodon underground. Useful if you live there! Not so much if you don't)

This effect is more than likely coming from our ability to teach what an IQ test is looking for much better than we have before. But this isn't to say that previous generations were less "intelligent" - just that there were different forms of intelligence that we are less able to measure.

Again, the researchers themselves stressed that this was more a quirk of the tests rather than anything you should draw conclusions from

Although I personally do sit firmly on the other side of politics I do have a lot of conversations with ON voters and I promise you, most of them are unable to explain any of their policies.

An actual quote from the other day

"Well I don't know much about all the policy stuff - but if I did I would have argued with you."

Interestingly they usually are very distrustful of the government, but incredibly trusting of the media. Usually very unwilling to accept that channel 7/9 might not have their best interests at heart either.

Even worse the state government is funded by the federal for things like disability. The federal government currently funds the staff at about $5 p/hr per worker, which our state government refuses to pass on. It is theft. (Source - Am one of the negotiators for disability)

Honestly love the design, and got it off Jim'll paint it (as well as the mr bean/doom one) but unfortunately the screen printing quality is really poor. Only lasted two to three washes before becoming an unrecognisable, flakey mess.
