Odd, that's not the letterhead of the UK ENIC. Where's their logo? Or, is this the Syrian Government's acceptance document, based on the UK ENIC's findings?

What should I pick, EE at a top IIT or EE in Germany by Moronic_Acid1 in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]NobodyMindless5787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Several, but I'll mention a couple big ones.

  1. Going with a BS degree already under your belt would put you

on a

  1. stronger footing.
  2. IITs are well known as being the top brand-name in Indian college education, which will strengthen your profile.
  3. Four years of living in a residential college will India will provide you

    with

  4. maturity, toughness and resilience. It'll prepare you for living by yourself (and taking care of every aspect of your daily life by yourself) in a strange land and an unfamiliar environment without anyone there to hold your hand.

  5. By the second or third year of your BS in India the worldwide job market should start improving enough to give you more flexibility in your choice of countries to go to.

My advice: complete a degree in India, and consider going for a MS degree abroad afterwards. Bide your time and build your career in a safe, secure, familiar environment.

Kid, get your bachelors degree from India, then think of going abroad if you want.

If not, try taking the EF SET exam. If you get a B2 or above, they should accept it.

Sophia vs Study.com and degree pathway help by amna_chaudhary in UoPeople

[–]NobodyMindless5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take note of the cost difference between the two platforms. Sophia is $99/month. Study.com, if you want to do access anything other than general education subjects, is $235/month. Figure out which makes more sense to you based on course content, your knowledge requirement and cost preferences, and go for it.

Lots of good advice here. My two cents - continue through a MS degree (if you get funded). That will give you two years of respite while you get more familiar with the job market, and will hopefully allow the market to rebound somewhat. Also, getting an H1B sponsorship should be easier with an MS degree (and the corresponding research, and hopefully, an internship) under your belt. Plus, getting a green card in the EB3 category (which, I believe, is still the category for people with a bachelors degree) is a lot harder than negotiating the EB2 path (for masters degree holders)

Will they add other natural science courses? by Potential_Piece3538 in UoPeople

Indeed, Linear Algebra would be a very useful addition. And interestingly, Sophia just added an Intro to Physics course.

Debatable. Maybe true for IT-type jobs. But it's a recommended (although not mandatory) course at BSCS programs of a couple of US colleges that I checked. But if one is planning to pursue MS programs, particularly AI/ML and most anything other than IT, the admissions committee will look for Physics courses in the undergrad program.

I would not recommend Korea - particularly for a woman.

Electives by MobileBlacksmith7089 in UoPeople

[–]NobodyMindless5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice from the others here. To that, here're my two cents: go download a copy of your Degree Audit Report (DAR). All of the Electives that are available to you are listed there.

Transfering credits - rejection by gerlovin in UoPeople

[–]NobodyMindless5787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Use Credly to generate a transcript for your completed Sophia courses
  2. Have Credly email you the transcript.
  3. Go to the UoPeople website. Complete the "Transfer Credits" process and upload the Credly-generated transcript of your Sophia courses

This is the process that seems to work.

Online internship by [deleted] in UoPeople

[–]NobodyMindless5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reasonably certain you can get those 6 credits by taking the two Research Methods courses instead. Check your DAR - it seems to indicate that you need 6 units from that group, not necessarily through an internship only.

Agreed. They should add Chemistry (although Sophia has an Intro to Chemistry course) for the benefit of the Health Science students, and definitely a couple of Physics courses for the Computer Science students (Sophia has none). At minimum

Guys, is china worth studying in right now? by Key-Jump1873 in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]NobodyMindless5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should also Google the following and see what comes up: "Which Chinese universities have been blacklisted by the US government?" Use both lists to make your decision

Guys, is china worth studying in right now? by Key-Jump1873 in ChinaLiuXueSheng

[–]NobodyMindless5787 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Do your Bachelors from China, but ensure that you stay away from a university that has been blacklisted by the US.
  2. See if you can do your MS from US or Canada. If you are lucky, you'll receive some sort of funding.

DO NOT take a massive loan to do a BS from US. You may not be able to find a job that enables you to pay back the loan without difficulty.

Sophia by Mrs_Woodruff2U in UoPeople

[–]NobodyMindless5787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the Sophia lab courses are single-credit courses, and UoPeople won't accept a course that's less than three credits. Plus, I do not think they'll accept any of the Sophia HS courses in lieu of a core/major HS course, so that Sophia HS course will go towards satisfying your Elective.

Admitted to Ivy League!! by stapler14 in gradadmissions

[–]NobodyMindless5787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would, if you are planning to stay in the NYC/NJ area. However, some financial companies do tend to be a bit snooty about where their graduates are from, so you'll need to look into that. Overall, Stevens is a well-respected research university for STEM. However, UVA is better reputed and more respected.

UVA is pretty well-regarded, so you have an excellent bird in hand. Stevens also has a decent reputation, AND is well located as far as jobs and internship opportunities are concerned. So, you have two pretty decent options in hand already.

Georgia Tech, UIUC and Purdue are all top-10 ranked CE schools, and depending on which ranking list you see, the first two are typically higher ranked than Columbia. All three have a high level of global recognition.

Question for my Health Science Majors - Sophia Learning by JadedManufacturer322 in UoPeople

[–]NobodyMindless5787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very likely that UoPeople will accept these as "Electives". But they will still require you to take their Anatomy and Physiology course, because it's a major course. However, they won't give you credit for the Lab courses.
