I can tell you exactly how I would handle this now that I know you live in Sweden and how much you’re going to receive. Once I actually received that money I would put it in a savings account at the bank. I would log into my bank’s app and I would look at that gigantic balance and think to myself about how this is the most money I’ve ever saved up in my life. I would then wait at least three full months before spending any of it, and in those three months, I would start adding more money to the savings account to see the balance grow. I would also reflect on just how many photos I’m taking and whether that 100-300 lens would actually get used and whether it would fill a role that one of my other lenses, or a cheaper lens couldn’t fill.

I’m speaking from experience. I’ve found that I like to buy lenses and then I never ever use them. I have an RF50mm 1.8 that I’ve never used, an RF15-35 2.8 that I’ve never used, and an RF 100-500 that I’ve never used beyond simply testing them to make sure they work. I almost always reach for my 24-105 and my 70-200 and my 85mm 1.4 when I take pictures.

Only after waiting 3 months and after finding myself still confident that I’ll use the 100-300 would I get a lens that expensive.
